Videostudio pro x5 rendering problem
First off, I'm going to say that I now currently using the trial version of videostudio pro x5. I'm having a big problem with rendering even small amounts of video sizes. Unless the video that I am rendering is only so many second long, the rend will not complete. The video size I am using is 1920x1080. I never had problems with lower quality, so I'm hoping this is only because of the fact I am using trial. But I've also noticed that video quality lowers when I render videos. Would upgrading to the actual videostudio pro x5 solve these problems, or is it probably something else?

Re: Videostudio pro x5 rendering problem
Welcome to forums... I have transferred your post to the Video Studio forum, where it is likely to get more answers.
But no, the trial version is exactly the same as the full version, with only some templates missing to reduce the size. When you say your video is 1920 x 1080, that suggests it is AVCHD, but could you please right click on one of the clips in the Video Studio timeline, and copy ALL of its Properties here. That way we will have a better idea of what we are dealing with.
Certainly VS can handle AVCHD, and long clips at that. But AVCHD is also about the most demanding format on computer resources currently available to consumers. So you need a decent computer to edit it and play it -- at least a good Core 2 Duo CPU. You don't, however, give any computer specifications, so I can't really guess as to whether this might be a problem. But in any case, VS has a feature called SmartProxy for dealing with AVCHD on less powerful computers. It creates a lower quality proxy or file cope which will play smoothly and show edits quickly. When you have finished editing, the edits are applied back to the original AVCHD.
Another possibility is that your AVCHD comes from a camcorder which films at the new international maximum Variable Bitrate (VBR) of 28 Mbps and possibly also using 60p (NTSC) or 50p (PAL) fully progressive mode. There is a setting in VS X5 (under File > Settings which allows you to "Enable 60P/50P editing". But unfortunately VS has not yet caught up to the new maximum VBR, and can only output a maximum VBR of 18 Mbps. This could account for some degradation in quality between your original AVCHD and the VS output.
Thirdly, there is the possibility that your original video might not, in fact, be AVCHD but something else e.g. another version of mpeg-4 using a different codec to the one which AVCHD uses (H.264) or even .mov. So you need to tell us the brand and model of the camcorder -- or even digital still camera -- you are using to film your video. That too might give us a clue.

This is in addition to what Ken has posted ...
You have not posted to what output you are rendering. That will of course affect the quality of the rendered video. If you are going from HD video to standard DVD for example the quality will be noticeably reduced.

What version of quicktime are you using? This can be causing the problem.

Re: Videostudio pro x5 rendering problem
I have a T3i. It shoots at a relatively high bit rate compared to dedicated video cameras (around 45-50 kbps using H.264 compression IIRC). So you should expect to see some image degradation, but probably not as badly as edited footage from a dedicated camera. I ran some tests with some clips I made when I first got the camera. Transcoding using the AVCHD, BluRay Mpeg2 and BluRay H.264 presets all worked fine with VS4. As far as I could tell when I used the VS5 trial, it uses the same encoders as VS4. So, I think there is some other issue with your computer, not specifically with VS.
I never did much video with my T3i, I found it to be very jerky when panning (thinking about it now, that was probably caused by the image stabilizer being optimized for stills).

Re: Videostudio pro x5 rendering problem
I have been using V5 with little difficulty until today. suddenly even though all the clips are smart-proxied, they are playing as jerky as if they aren't. this is very disturbing because one needs to see exactly what is happening in video in real time while editing, without guess-work. since i am editing a music video, the software is currently useless to me. I will try to use a restore point to last week to see if that solves the problem, but i've read that people sometimes have had to deleted all the smart proxy files and start from scratch, which would just be a massive pain in the butt. any other ideas? please don't blame my laptop. it's been fine and i have read this is an issue with corel. thanks.

Hi Rudy
Sorry you are still having problems, although you say “I have been using V5 with little difficulty until today” you posted earlier with a similar problem, yet did not reply. Hmmmm…….so clearly the problem has been with you for some time????? Maybe I am mistaken

As far as I know Smart Proxy files works without problems unless you change something.
Are you using the default location for proxy files?
If so when you add a HD clip a proxy file will be created, this does take some time.
If you close Video Studio before all proxy files have been created then the process will be terminated, you will have to activate the process manually.
Before you close Video Studio view Settings Smart Proxy Queue Manager, if there are clips listed do not close the program.
To manually create proxy files, right click a clip on the timeline and select Create Proxy Files.
To select Multiple clips use Shift+Click, first and last clip.
Once Proxy Files have been created a small icon can be seen on the clip in the timeline. Please take note of this icon.
also view Settings Proxy File Manager for a list of clips using Proxy Files.
