Installing X5 Pro on 2 computers

Post by Heesenproductions »

Can anyone clarify if I am allowed to install X5 pro on 2 computers? Like I did with X4 en versions before?
I noted that X5 ask registration to use the Core Guide, Do More, Get More, etc feature. What will happen in the case of a Windows re-installation - do I need to register again?

Providing one is a desktop and the other is a laptop then it is permissible to have the programme on two computers providing you only use one at a time.

but as I understand it if you have two desktops or two laptops - OR- you want to use both installations at the same time that is not allowed without a multiple use licence.

I purchased and installed CorelDraw graphics suite X5 on a Windows XP computer a few years ago. Then, when Microsoft decided to discontinue support of XP, I had to move everything to a new computer with Windows 7. (I hate Windows 8, and will resist using it as long as possible.)

I couldn't find the original installation disk, and don't remember if I even got one, or if I downloaded the software. I've got the big hard cover book, but if there was a disk in there, it is long gone. I did find a link to download the program on the new computer, and was able activate it with my registration code. I'm not sure how to de-activate the license on the old computer, though. It's not being used, and isn't even connected to the internet any more.

Is there a process to de-activate the old, original software? If so, can I do it from the new computer, since the old one is no longer available to use online? I definitely do not want to hook up the old computer to the internet to do anything, for fear that the old XP system would be hacked, and sensitive information that may still be on it stolen.

This web board does not deal with the CorelDRAW family of products. For that you need to go to http://coreldraw.com/forums/

In any case, I have no real idea if DRAW's EULA allows multiple installations of the program on different computers. Up to three is possible with some of their programs, but not all. But if you have installed DRAW on your new computer, and got it going with your serial number from the old computer, were you required to register the program with Corel again or does it work without registration? If the latter, then I would have thought that is your answer i.e. that you can install it on multiple computers. But you would need to consult the EULA to see how many and under what conditions. (With Corel's PaintShop Pro, for instance, you can install on up to three computers but are supposed to use it only on one at a time.)

CorelDraw does allow multiple installations, but with the restriction that they cant be used at the same time.

I think the same thing applies to all of the software Corel produces.

It doesn't apply to Video Studio. Read the VS EULA. I think it is because of Dolby. Corel has to pay Dolby a licence fee for every installation, even notional ones I suppose since there is no hands-on way they could calculate exactly how many installations there are. In other words, if the EULA allowed up to three installations, then Corel would have to pay Dolby 3 licence fees. So they specify only one.

FYI, the relevant para of the EULA is as follows:
EXCEPT FOR THE COREL PRODUCTS LISTED BELOW, YOU MAY ONLY DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON ONE COMPUTING DEVICE. YOU MAY NOT RE-INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON A SECOND COMPUTING DEVICE UNLESS THE ORIGINAL COMPUTING DEVICE FAILS, IF AUTHORIZATION CODES ARE REQUIRED YOU MAY NEED TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REQUEST APPROVAL TO RE-INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON A NEW COMPUTING DEVICE, AND YOU CERTIFY TO COREL THAT YOU DEINSTALLED THE SOFTWARE FROM THE FAILED COMPUTING DEVICE. EXCEPT IF LOCATED IN CHINA, INDIA, INDONESIA OR VIETNAM, PRIVATE AND BUSINESS USERS OF AFTERSHOT, COREL CAPTURE, COREL CONNECT, COREL WEBSITE CREATOR, CORELDRAW, COREL DESIGNER, CORELCAD, COREL OFFICE, COREL PAINTER, COREL PDF FUSION, PAINTSHOP PRO, PAINTSHOP PHOTO PRO, PARADOX, COREL PHOTO-PAINT, PRESENTATIONS, QUATTRO PRO, AND WORDPERFECT THAT HAVE MULTIPLE COMPUTING DEVICES (E.G., STAND-ALONE COMPUTER, LAPTOP AND MINI/PORTABLE PC), MAY DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL ANY OF THESE SOFTWARE PRODUCTS ON UP TO THREE (3) SYSTEMS IN A SINGLE ADDRESS, HOWEVER IT CAN ONLY BE USED BY YOU ON ONE (1) SYSTEM AT A TIME. IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED MULTIPLE LICENSES FOR THE SOFTWARE, AT ANY TIME YOU MAY HAVE AS MANY COPIES OF THE SOFTWARE IN USE AS YOU HAVE LICENSES.
The EULA can be found in C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelVideoStudio [Ultimate] X7\en-US
