Camcorder not recognised in Dell Latitude E5420

Post by crpillai »

Hi,

My laptop Dell Latitude E5420 is not recognising my camcorder.
I tried with two of my mini DV camcorders, both of them are not recognised.
When I connect through the IEEE1394 port on the laptop, it doesn't respond at all.
In UL VS or any other video capture programs, the camcorder is not recognised, but only my laptop built in web camera is recognised.

Tried with changing IEEEE1394 host controller with Legacy in the Device Manager, but doesn't work.

Any resolution pls.

Regards
Terfyn

Have you got the Firewire drivers loaded?

Most new computers don't have the IEEE1394 ports fitted. I had to have a board fitted to my new box and had the problem that the computer did not recognise my Canon HV20. It was sorted by loading new drivers.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

So it may be a good idea to reload the drivers. Does the camera work with Windows Media Centre or does the computer find the camera? If not there may be some software missing.

Hi

Does your Laptop recognise the camera being connected.

With Video Studio closed down, when I connect my camera to the firewire port, Viewing the Device Manager shows an entry for Imaging Devices.
The list is in alphabetical order so immediately above should show IEEE
Expanding the Imaging Device I see my camera, view image below.

Do you see Imaging Devices?

If can be a problem with the laptop and not the software or the camcorder. Have you tried plugging the Firewire cable to another computer? If the computer can detect and use the camcorder then that answers your question.
