Has anyone experienced problems with rippling editing. I completed the editing of a multi- camera edit using two tracks. The second cameras footage on the second track was towards the end of the production.
I then proceeded to add the music and sound tracks at the beginning with full ripple editing activated and when doing this I tweaked and removed a few clips to match the music which reduced the production by about 40 seconds in all.
When I got to where the synced clips were, they had moved by about 15 seconds. I had dozens of these from the second camera on the second track that took hours to edit and cut into place. However I managed to move them all in one go by highlighting them all and re-syncing the first one which made all the others fall in line again.
Does anyone know why this happens and has anyone else had this problem.
Regards
Stephen

Re: Ripple editing movements
Hi Stephen
Ripple editing is not that intuitive and can be tricky to use, and is certainly not magic.
After setting the top track and overlay track you apply ripple editing making sure the padlock is closed for both tracks.
You then proceed to remove further video frames. I assume you removed these from the top track.
Just how did you do this?
There are several methods of removing frames, use the scissors to cut a section, then try to delete, if there is a sync issue you will receive a warning.
If you drag the yellow trim handles then it is possible to change the sync, it all depends on whether there is a clip immediately below the trim handles.
It is a little difficult to explain but yes it is possible to inadvertently change the synced clips with ripple editing applied.
As a test try this
Start a new project
Add sample videos V16, V17, V18 , V19, V20 to the top track
Add V21 to the overlay track, sync the end this clip with the end of V20
Apply Ripple editing to the two tracks
Adjust the project to fit in the timeline so you can see the last frame.
The second clip is clearly identifiable being blue, at least it should be, this clip partly overlays the beginning of V21
Select the blue clip V17, drag the left trim handles to remove a few frames, notice both timelines stay in sync moving left.
Now trim the end of V17 or indeed trim any clip immediately above the overlay clip. now the clips are out of sync, yes ripple editing is still applied.
Now try using the scissors to cut a section and delete, you should get a warning regarding related clips.
All I can say is take care and be aware of the pitfalls

Re: Ripple editing movements
Hi
The adjustment and removal of clips are at the beginning and the synced tracks are in the second half of timeline. All locks are on and there is nothing underneath the tracks I am editing. It happened again last night, I made a few slight length adjustments to some scenes and the track on the other track towards the end all moved by around 10 seconds out of sync.

Re: Ripple editing movements
Hi
I do not really understand why this is happening, I'm sure there will be a simple explanation, something we are missing.
How are you adjusting the clips, do you mean repositioning, removing full clips or removing end frames.
How are you doing the editing, to remove frames for instance you can drag the yellow trim bars or cut and delete.
How are you doing this.?

Re: Ripple editing movements
Hi and thanks for your help.
I uninstalled VD Pro x5 adn re-installed it and it is now ripple editing ok, everything moves up and down together.
I will be fitting an SSD this week so will be doing a full format and reinstall of everything as I have been updating a lot of new hardware upgrades as in Blu Ray, burner new graphics card etc so thought a good tidy up would be good and hopefully set up everything back as it should be.
Regards
Stephen
