Is there any way to crop/convert mts files from 16:9 to 4:3 so it can be used for TV broadcast?
We produce a PATV program & some of our partners only output 4:3 so our shows are compressed.
Thank you,
Bill Regan

Re: Proo X4 crop mts files to 4:3
Hi
If you edit the project properties to use 4:3 aspect ratio the Mts clip will sit in the frame as a 16:9 but have black borders top and bottom to fill the 4:3 frame
Tip--go to F6 Preferences and change the backgrouns colour, this will allow you to identify the projects frame.
If you now Share Create Video File DVD - DVD Video 4:3 you will create a standard Mpeg2 DVD
If you wish to remove the black border then you will lose some detail from the MTS frame left and right.
Double click the clip in the timeline to open the options panel
Attributes tab - tick Distort
Resize the clip within the preview screen to fill the frame. Dragging the corners will retail the proportions.
Right click the preview screen and anchor Centre - Centre
The question is what video format are you intending to create, I assume for 4:3 ratio Mpeg2 DVD would be suitable?

I have a question, after the crop process to 4:3, can the video-watching keep the original quality?lata wrote:Hi

Hi
Yes the quality is going to reduce, whether this is noticeable is another question.
You are not just converting the aspect ratio but downscaling the HD to SD, so i would expect some reduction in quality.
A little unusual for anyone wanting to do that.
If you were changing SD 16:9 to SD 4:3 then the quality would be the same, very similar.
I would simply allow the TV zoom/aspect settings to cope with the 16:9 to 4:3 shape.

So this is the way, I'm still the wrong setting, but fortunately saw this post, I'll go fix over.
