Chopy audio and low frame rate

Post by crpillai »

Dear Masters,

I am using VS ProX5. While capturing the video captures normally for a few seconds and then stucks and moves slowly with one or two frames per second and the audio is very choppy.

Other video clips in my PC plays OK in VS.

I am capturing from my Panasonic digital camera through firewire cable/port to my Windows XP PC.

It used to work properly and for the past few months it is giving problem and I left it from there.

Can you advise a solution.

Regards

Pillai

Does Windows Explorer see the video clips on the camera? If yes, then simply copy the clips to your hard drive. There is no need to capture.

Try downloading the small freeware program WinDV which a number of us here use to capture DV/AVI using Firewire: http://www.windv.mourek.cz It usually works well, splits the incoming video by scene, and has the advantage of allowing you to use your own name for the captured files. But if that too gives you any problems, then you may need to look for a hardware problem, such as a faulty firewire cable or card.

canuck: with a mini DV camcorder, which is what I am assuming is the case here, you cannot "see" any files on the camcorder using Windows. You have to capture in real time using Firewire.

Ken I have been using WinDV to capture video from my mini DVD digital camcorder for almost 8 years and find it an excellent little utility. The user though stated he was capturing from a "digital camera" although I guess "digital cameras" do not have a fireport connection as far as I know

I thought I might have been trying to teach grandma to suck eggs! Sorry... But while I saw he said "digital camera", I suspected he was nonetheless referring to a digital camcorder. I often use "camera" and "camcorder" interchangeably here, though I know I probably shouldn't, given the explosion of digital still cameras that can record video. But like you, I also suspect that non still camera has a firewire port...

Sorry, I apologise for the error. It is not a digital still camera but a 3 CCD Panasonic Camcorder model NV-GS 70.

Dear Ken, Nice seeing your posting, I have been reading your posting for the past several years, but had to dump my camcorder for the past year or so, due to personal problems.

Now I am back with the camcorder and was shocked to see the trouble in capturing; may be several additions to my PC made the trouble. I tried to system restore but the restore point available is only for the recent couple of months and that didn't work.

Let me try the freeware program and shall come back.

Thanks,

Pillai

Hi,
I tried thru WinDV to capture and Alas! it is capturing video but the sound is choppy.

I saw an yellow question mark in the Device Manager against "simple PCI network communication" and am unsuccessful in fixing up that. Is that got to do with sound problem?

Click on the exclamation mark and update driver, see if windows does it automatically for you. Do you have an IEEE1394 connection in device manager? It could be the firewire card is not being recognised properly, this will give you some things to try, I'd start by uninstalling the card from device manager, turn off pc, remove card, boot up, turn off, reinstall card, boot up and let windows reinstall driver.
Test.
If not working still, try using the driver fix on htis page

Hi,

Thanks for your expert advises. I have resolved the issue. The problem was with my hard disk to where I was capturing. I chose that hard drive (one out of 3) because it had more free space. However, today I captured to the other 2 drives and it works perfectly. So the problem was with my hard disk hich I am going to replace.

I have another trouble capturing in my laptop, which is not recognising my camcorder. I will post a separate query on that.

Regards,
