And just to emphasise a couple of Trevor's points still further -- if the burning module opens and there is something in its timeline, then delete it, and ONLY use the Add Media button to add your newly created mpeg-2 to the burning timeline.

Trevor also said:
Browse your hard drive to find the Mpeg2 video file.
But note that it is the mpeg-2 file you are after, NOT the .vsp file.

If you go straight from editing to burning a disc without creating a new project (Share > Create Disc > DVD), then when the burning module opens, it will normally contain the *vsp* file. This should in fact work. But some -- and only some -- users like you have problems with that workflow. So we recommend to those people to follow the step-by-step procedure outlined by Trevor.

lata,

I have your suggestions per 04, 2012, 1:52 a.m.

I am unable to locate the file that was supposedly rendered to an Mpeg2 file. Nothing I can pull up has properties that indicate anything has transferred to NTSC DVD. There are no such choices (NTSC DVD) listed in any of my menus. When I attempt to copy anything to the Library, the program chooses the format. I am unable to effect what choices it makes nor where it is going to be stored. I can recall the earliest version of the show into the time line of the edit function, but there is nothing I can do to effect any modification or duplication or moving on in the SHARE function.

Your instructions are to load my VSP version into the timeline under the EDIT tab. Next step - "Render the project to your output format - SHARE, CREATE VIDEO FILE " You say at this point - "for you NTSC DVD, this creates a MPEG2 video file - takes 4 hours".

This is the point where I am stopped dead in the water. Once I click "create video file" the program takes over and allows no choices on my part, even to the point where the program creates the name of the supposed copy I'm making, making it impossible for me to find where it is ultimately stored. All I'm doing is filling up my hard drive with 5 hour copies of video material that I can't get access to, even to delete them and free up memory!

I've tried even going past this point to START NEW PROJECT with nothing in the time line. With nothing in the time line, the program will not allow me to activate SHARE CREATE DISC. Apparently, the only way the program can read my edited video is when it is loaded into the time line. Once it is removed from the time line, there is no way for it to process anything, hence clicking on START A NEW PROJECT nullifies the use of the entire SHARE function and turns off all those steps.

I live in a suburb of Los Angeles called Glendale. If there is anyone you know in this area who is fluent in this program that I could call/meet with, and have him/her show me what I'm doing wrong, I'd be happy to pay for his/her time to rescue me from this nightmare. You guys in the forum have been terrific, but you are my last hope since the people at Corel Help (misnomer) can't even answer simple questions, let alone procedural ones. I'm beginning to believe that I have an un-bugged earlier version of the program (perhaps this is why it was on sale from Amazon) and what I need is someone who has lived through earlier incarnations and has a workaround to this problem. It is worthless for me to employ my 35 years as an editor to a program that won't allow me to print out a readable disc.

Thank you again for your efforts,

Dennis Kull

Can you confirm that when you select Share > Create Video File, you don't get this drop down menu with all the possible formats for output, including DVD with its own set of selections:
VS DVD Menu.jpg
If so, then there has to be something very wrong with your VS set-up and a reinstallation would appear to be in order. This is also the case if, with an empty timeline, you select Share > Create Disc, nothing happens. Normally, with an empty timeline, this is the ONLY option which is not greyed out. And after selecting the disc format (DVD) the burning module should open with an empty timeline to which you should be able to add either the new DVD-compatible mpeg-2, or even a vsp file...

Hi

Just to add to Ken’s comments……….

Wow this is very strange, are you sure you are using Corel Video Studio. :? :?

Assuming you are just pushing the wrong buttons…………..

View the Video Library, clicking the Photo and Audio icons (top left of library) will hide those sections, only Video Thumbnails will show.
Each time you create a video file a thumbnail is placed in the library, View the last entries. The first 21 are samples.
Right click for options. Choose Properties should show the mpeg2 as File Format NTSC DVD.
Right click again and choose Locate on Computer, this will open Windows Explorer identifying the actual file.

AND - still seeking further clarification - in addition to answering Kens question about clicking on "Create Video File" can you also confirm that with an empty timeline - after clicking on "Share >> Create Disc >> DVD" and waiting 10 seconds or so - do you get this window. ;-

A friend suggested that I disable my screen saver, and that along with a couple of lucky breaks allowed me to render the show to mpeg and finally start making usable dupes. Thank you for all your patience and help. Warmest regards,
