Hi
I am a newby to your group having just moved from Pinnacle Studio 15 to VideoStudio Pro X5 U, so I am still finding my way around.
My Question:-Is there an elegant way to make "cutaway" inserts in VS? At present I am using PIP to cover the video from the video track with the video from the overlay track. In Studio it was possible to lock the audio track while overlaying the video with the "cutaway" shot. With VS I can only lock both video and audio on the same track.

Hi
not quite sure if I have fully understood what you mean - if you want to use a cut-away you would normally just put the cut-to piece in the overlay track at set it to fill the screen so that it completely covers the video in the basic track. If you want to do more editing then enable "Ripple editing" which basically moves all tracks if you make changes to an individual one.
you can separate audio and video so that the audio appears in the audio track if that helps - right click on the video and choose 'split audio'
There is no need to apply PIP if you just want to cover one video/image with another.
