Don't bother checking the specs on my profile, as this post is about another computer.
I just have two questions for now to try and minimize time to correct the problem.
Question 1: Can the VSPro X2 Windows 7 compatibility patch be installed before installing the program?
Question 2: Should compatibility mode be tried before installing a compatibility patch? Or should the compatibility patch be installed first?
Background:
I have Service Pack 1 and have already downloaded the VS Pro X2 compatibility patch for Windows 7 (UVS125_Win7_Patch.exe
(9.37 MB)) from http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1300014 ,
I bought VSP X2 a couple of years ago for daughter( living in another location) using Win XP at the time. Now she has Windows 7 notebook, and when she tries to install VSP X2 she gets an error something like this: "application incorrect...xstrace.exe" (I am in process of trying to get exact error message)
Device information: Will get if needed.
Program version: VSPro X2
Patches/updates that have been installed. Daughter has SP1 but not installed yet because she cannot install the main program. As noted above I have downloaded and sent her the Windows 7 compatibility patch, but need to know if she can install it before installing the program.
Thanks for the help in getting my account activated.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X2 on Windows 7 laptop
Hi howiem
and welcome to the forums
Video Studio X2 should be installed first, then install any update packs.
I do not know what xstrace.exe is, so cannot really help with that , maybe others will help.
The X2 installation files are extracted to a folder on C:\Program Files\Corel\VS-Installation Files
At least for Windows XP... I assume the same for W7
I mention this as it is the only VS program that does this, other programs extract to the temp folder, deleted after install. X2 install retains these files.
If these files are corrupt then re-installing X2 may not overwrite them, just a thought.
Some users created a new User Account then successfully installed the program, the user account could then be removed.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X2 on Windows 7 laptop
Trevor, Thanks for the info. I've instructed daughter to try the XP SP3 compatibility settings to see if she can install X2, and am awaiting an answer. If this gets to be too much more of a hassle, I will just buy her X5. The main reason I hoped to stick with X2 is because English is not her native language and she has a couple of years experience in using X2. I am concerned that she may have a longer than desired learning curve with a later version.
xstrace.exe is a windows diagnostic program in C:\Windows\System32, which I don't know how to use, but it is part of the error message she is getting when she tries to install VSPro X2.

Hi howiem
Your Daughter should be logged on to the PC with full admin rights, do you know if this is the case.
As I mentioned she can try creating a new user account with admin rights, then try a new install of X2

Trevor, I think she has full administrator rights, but I will check with her, and see if she can set vup a new user account if necessary. By the way, I am not getting notifications about replies to my posts, and I have the box checked to get notified.

As you know know from your own registration process here, we have been having some technical glitches in recent days. We are still trying to sort them out at the server end in Taiwan!!.
