Could you post a step-by-step description of what you are doing.

Does the date stamp appear on-screen while you are editing? I seem to recall that the date stamp is only a feature of certain DV camcorders (Sony?) and that it has to be turned off in the camcorder's menu before filming.

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
Ken, I think rocco sees the date on the menu page not in the actual videos.
From his post "the DVD menu always has the date the movie was created in bold letters imprinted on the left side of the screen".
I also have a Sony DV camcorder and as far as I know the date/time is turned off by default. At least it does not appear on any of the videos I recorded and captured. Of course the date/time stamp is always recorded on the tape but most video editors do not make use of it.

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
it has nothing to do with the actual footage.the software while it renders and creates the menu templates for some reason it takes the date from the bios or from windows itself and puts it on the menu navigation screen of the dvd i just created.the templates have no editing choices other than edit text.it is very annoying trying to create a dvd with lets say your wedding which was shot back in the 90' ,editing the text in the menu saying 'my wedding' and when the wizard is done and the disc is burned and you navigate the menu you see 18-10-2012 my wedding'
i use windows 8 if that helps but i see no reason for this to be os specific.

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
I just did a quick test (creating a DVD with menu) using some DV avis I had captured from my DV camcorder. I do not get any date/time stamp on the menu. I must admit I did not use the DVD to DVD wizard so that could be a very different process.
Hopefully rocco comes back and tells us exactly what steps he took so I can try to duplicate what he did.

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
i confirm it it happens only when you use the wizard.
step 1 you start the dv to dvd wizard
step 2 you choose capture entire video either 60m or 90m.
step 3 you press next and there you click on one of the first 3 or 4 templates .after you deselect the box that says something about a time stamp on your video
step 4 you press the options to choose how many chapters it will add(it is time sensitive) if its 16:9 or 4:3 the project etc
step 5 you insert an empty dvd-r
step 6 you either press burn if it is a 60 min movie or fit and burn if it is a 90 min movie
then the software rewinds the tape at the beginning and starts the capture procedure.when its done it converts the video it compiles the menus and it burns the whole thing to our dvd-r
and when you play it back the dvd menu has a huge date stamp on it ! grrrr
i am almost sure that someone left a hidden piece of code in there and they forgot about it....

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
Thanks for the steps. Unfortunately I don't have a Firewire connection on my laptop to test the DV to DVD Wizard. But even if I did, I would not use that feature since I prefer to capture in short clips so that I can easily edit the video and create the DVD the way I want.
Can you capture to a video file using the Wizard or does it only burn direct to DVD?
I found this in the Help file, I don't know if it is of any help.
====================================================================
Applying templates and burning to DVDs
Choose a style template, specify settings, and burn your movies to DVD.
To apply a style template and burn to DVD
1 Specify a volume name and recording format for your movie.
If you have more than one burner installed on your computer, or if the default drive is not a burner, specify the burner that you want to use in the Advanced Settings dialog box.
2 Choose a style template from one of the available presets to apply to your movie, and then select the output video quality.
3 To customize the theme template text, click Edit Title.
4 In the Begin tab of the Edit Template Title dialog box, double-click the text that you want to modify. You can also modify attributes such as font, color or shadow settings.
5 Click the End tab to modify the text. Click OK.
6 To mark your video clips with date information, click Add as title in Video date information. Select Entire video if you want the video to appear from beginning to end, or specify the duration.
7 If the movie is too big to fit onto a DVD, click Fit & Burn.

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
to mark video clips... not to mark the dvd menu. it means that if you select it it will mark the entire length of your video with the current date like a watermark.i am talking about the dvd menu creation process. without any options for the user and without any control or warning whatsoever it imprints the current date in the menu. i don't want that! at least give the option to change this so it can match the original date. example. your first children is born. hi8 watermark in the movie 10-10-1990. dvd menu 20-10-2012. how nice!

Re: how to get rid of the auto date stamp in the menu
Why not simply first capture to a video file and then authour your DVD? It gives you much more control over the whole process. Burning direct to DVD is always a risky operation. One little glitch just before the end and you lose everything and have to start over. You mat think you are saving time by doing a direct to DVD burn but it really is not worthwhile if you run into problems along the way.
