X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Last night, I was installing some of the brushes and frames from the 'Do More' section of Corel Guide when the PC BLUE SCREENED. I don't think my system has BS'd ever in four years of ownership. The reason was some memory error. Good thing it rebooted, but displayed "your system has recovered from a serious error." This morning I was viewing some scripts in edit mode and X5 crashed (CTD).
Wow.. scary stuff. Anyone experienced these issues?

First time hearing this kind of problem. Can you tell me if you are using the latest service pack for your Windows XP? That can be a factor on your problem.

Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Yes.. SP3 for WinXp. Also SP1 for X5. I had a total system freeze this afternoon while running a Youtube X5 tutorial in Firefox browser with X5 open. I mean NOTHING would work except holding the system power button to force a reboot. It's NOT like my system to crash or lock-up. Most times I can kill an App with Task Manager.Abiel Corel NA wrote:First time hearing this kind of problem. Can you tell me if you are using the latest service pack for your Windows XP? Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
No problems here. Have XP Home SP3. X5 not installed SP1, and have all the brushes and frames installed without any problems.
Using AVG antivirus, Zone Alarm and Spybot Search and Destroy. No lightroom or recent photoshop.
Both X4 and X5 have been very stable for me.

The first problem [Blue Screen] occurred right after installing a bunch of FREE stuff from the Corel Guide section.hartpaul wrote:No problems here. Have XP Home SP3. X5 not installed SP1, and have all the brushes and frames installed without any problems.

As said have ALL (includes the free stuff - brushes and frames) installe without any problems. Will dig out an XP Pro hard drive and see if any problems with installation on that.

Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Today I uninstalled X5, removing everything including stored settings. It took a LONG time to uninstall.
Then reinstalled X5 on another hard drive, this time on the root C:\ drive. So far there have been TWO major system lockups and the video Preview still becomes corrupt after a few views (it starts ok, but then degrades.) Another day of this and I'll unfortunately have to uninstall for good. Have spent so much time troubleshooting and not enough exploring. Three hours today installing and defragging.
The lockups are kinda' gradual.. loss of window control, then trying to END routines in Task Manager.. they don't want to close and freeze. Next the audio will loop or freeze, and finally a total freeze where neither keyboard or mouse will work. It almost seems like a memory problem.. or hardware?
Any last minute suggestions? Is this PC too old with 4MB RAM running Xp Pro?

Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Another update: I've found that system instability was due to DEFRAGGING the hard drives after X5 was installed, and after it had generated the DB and thumbnails. There was a LOT of fragmentation, and latest version of the defrag software is just too bloated. It may be reasonable to re-install X5 trial as there are 2+ weeks left on the Eval period. See comments about video corruption in other thread.

Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Hi,
I am facing same issue to running PSPX5 and a Blue Screen which freeze the computer is appearing (image attached).
The strange thing is that I was using PSPX5 normally, and the Blue Screen had appeared maybe twice in several months of use.
After I have installed the service pack 2 all the times I run PSPX5 the Blue Screen has appeared.
I uninstall and reinstall PSPX5 (version "0") and the Blue Screen is still appearing all the times.
I downloaded from Corel a new installation package (with SP2 already included) and after installation the Blue Screen is still appearing all the times.
At the end it is being impossible to run PSPX5 because of the Blue Screen.
If anyone knows how to solve this, please let me know.
Thanks,
Cadu

Re: X5 trial, one Blue Screen and a CTD or two
Well the blue-screen indicates a problem with igdpmd64.sys. Which according to SystemExplorer.net (found through Google search) is the intel graphics kernel mode driver.
You can view past blue-screen dumps using Nirsoft's BlueScreenView to compare previous failures to the latest one: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
Have you received a driver update recently? And, more importantly, do any other graphics programs cause problems like this?

Thanks for reply!
I can run PSPX4 and any other graphics programs (e.g. Inkscape, Gimp, Sony Vegas) without any problem, so X5 seems to be the ugly guy.
Any workaround to solve this is very welcome!!!

I just checked and none of my video drivers were updated recently.Have you received a driver update recently?
It just happens with PSPX5 all the times after SP2 was installed first time. Even removing this installation and reinstalling former version (X5.0) the error is still appearing. And, more importantly, do any other graphics programs cause problems like this?
