Calling all audio experts

Post by wstagner »

Since there's no built-in VS5 provision for audio editing (specifically a sound equalizer), what's the easiest way to edit the audio portion of the video? Sony Movie Studio 12 Platinum has built-in Sound Force and the capability of using Audacity as a plug-in.

I have at least 100 3-4 minute clips that require audio EQ.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you read other thread, most user suggests to use Audacity.

Not the solution I was hoping for.
Is there a link to the thread?

I use adobe audition, it imports the video file and allows you to edit the audio and then save it back out as a wav file, import back into VS.
Might be a tad expensive compared to Audacity, which is free.

If you've saved the modified file as a WAV file, load that into the "library" in VideoStudio. Then drop it onto an audio track -- it doesn't matter which audio track, as they all work the same.

Next, drag the video clip to the video track. Click on the "Sound mixer" icon to turn on video waveforms... it will probably take a few seconds for the audio waveforms to appear.

Once you can see the audio waveforms in your audio and video tracks, move the audio track so that its waveform matches up with the video track's waveform. When the two are close but not perfectly matched, you get an obvious reverb effect when you play the two together. Move the audio track one frame to the left and see if the reverb sound changes -- if it's better, you're going in the right direction. If the reverb effect is worse, you went the wrong way -- drag the audio clip two frames to the right and listen again. Keep at it and in a minute or two, the audio and video will be in sync. The good news is that, once you have the tracks in sync, they should stay in sync.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Bob.
Can I just delete the original track and replace it with the edited one?
I'm not changing it's length, only the bass/treble.

Yes, as the length doesn't change, so it's easy to add the audio file. Mute or remove the original, import the audio file as above and just align the start of both audio and video files and now do any editing to the length to both files at the same time.

About all I could do is BUY a cycle....I'd be lucky to ride 1 mile at my age.
:D
Would sure be nice if VS would incorporate a few more audio editing features, but there's a mile-long wish list for it already and i'm sure that's on there.

Sorry that I missed your question in response to my post, but Graham gave you the same answer I would have. Good luck!
