First I'd like to say that it is in honor To be here among you guys. Even with this question that i'm about to ask, I feel that i'm not worthy to be here.
I'm currently using Corel VideoStudio Ultimate Pro X4. Sometimes when I burn a project to DVD it does not play the whole thing. The program says "burn successful" but when I go play it on the tv it stops maybe 10 to 15 mins before it ends.
I thought it might have been the batch of Verbatim DVD-R discs that i use but now I dont think so because i'm using a new batch.
For awhile I started turning my project into an AVI file and then burn it. That actually started to work,....until now.
It's a strange problem. I checked the Forum and no one has this problem. Please help.

Re: DVD Stops Before it Reachs the End
Hi Moshe, and welcome to the forums!
My first reaction was also to suggest you look at the blank discs you are using, but reading on, I see that you have already done so. But you might also want to check the burning speed. I always try to keep it as low as possible. More often than not, though, I no longer use VS to burn an actual disc. This is because I will often want to burn several copies of the same disc, but not all at the same time (which VS can do). So what I do is. on the final burning page, untick the 'Create to Disc' box, and select instead the 'Create DVD Folders' (although you could also select as an alternative 'Create Disc Image'). The DVD Folders are created on your hard drive and are Audio_TS (empty) and Video_TS containing various .vob, .bup and .ifo files -- in other words an exact copy of a video DVD as would otherwise be burned to disc. You can then play the folder using a software DVD player and see if it plays right through to the end. When satisfied, you can then burn the Folders to an actual disc using any number of programs. I use either Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio, but you could also use the Roxio suite or the freeware ImgBurn and a variety of other such programs.
But in order to be able to help more, it would also be useful to know the properties of the video you are editing. Right click on one of the clips in the timeline and copy ALL of its Properties here, please, and do the same if there are other formats in your project.
You also say you have been converting the project to .avi before burning. Why do you do that? The format that has to go on to a DVD must be mpeg-2 by international standard. And what kind of .avi were you creating anyway? There are over 800 different formats which call themselves .avi. In other words, it is just a wrapper extension (apart from 'true' uncompressed .avi which is huge -- at about 65 GB per hour of video.)
It would also be useful to have a few more details about your exact workflow. For instance, when you finish editing, you then go to Share > Create Video File > but then what do you select? There is no AVI option -- though of course the DV option available is one of the many formats that use the .avi extension. As I said about, you should be selecting Share > Create Video File > DVD. Then when the new DVD-compatible mpeg-2 is created, you should open a new project, then select Share > Create Disc > DVD. When the burning module opens, its timeline should be empty. You then insert the new mpeg-2 and proceed from there. But if you are not doing this -- and I suspect you aren't -- then it would be very useful to know exactly what you *are* doing...

Re: DVD Stops Before it Reachs the End
Here are some checklist that you want to try to isolate the problem.
Does the problem only happens when playing the DVD on a DVD Player or when you play the Created DVD on your computer?
Does the same thing happens using another burning program like Nero or DVD Movie Factory?
Have you tried using another brand of blank DVD?

Re: DVD Stops Before it Reachs the End
Looks like my last Post never went through. I spent alot of time talking about my project settings and VS regimen lol.
What I ended up doing was to start my computer all over again, Open Corel, Share > Create Disc > DVD > Then I "remove selected media clip", then i hit "close". When I go back to Create Disc > DVD, The media clip is back, next I added 1 more chapter to the project. When the DVD burned, this time it played through to the end. The only problem is which of the 3 things I tried worked?
- Restarting the computer (which i did in the past and i think didnt work)
- Removing the media clip so that a new one will be made (this one sounds stupid)
- Adding another chapter to the project.
* skier-hughes, The project was an hour and 27mins
* Abiel Corel NA, I never tried it on the computer, which would have been a good idea. Sadly i threw the disc out.
After the DVD burned successfully, I tried Ken Berry's method of "unticking the 'Create to Disc' box, and select instead the 'Create DVD Folders' ". Which worked great. I used Nero for that.

Re: DVD Stops Before it Reachs the End
Although you think removing and remaking the media clip sounds stupid, it is most likely the one that worked!!

Re: DVD Stops Before it Reachs the End
Thanks everyone. Thank God that worked out. Now im using Ken Berry's idea of Creating a DVD folder in Corel then using Nero to burn the DVD. So far so good
