VideoStudio Problems...

Post by kingoftheducks »

Hello,

I recently bought the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 DVD Creator cable, and got Ulead VideoStudio 6.0 I think included. Now, I'm attempting to transfer from VCR to my computer for editing and then DVD reproduction, and I'm using an S-Video cable to do so...

My problems are:

1) The image is in black and white, and I can't change this (I've tried the submenus)
2) It won't save the sound with the recording, though I can hear the sound through my computer speakers.

Any help would be most welcome, thanks very much!

Owain.

Can you describe how you are getting the video/audio from the VCR into your computer ? Are you going from the VCR to a camcorder and then into the computer ? Or are you going directly from the VCR into the computer. ( if so, where are you conncecting the cables to ? )

SVHS cable does not carry sound for starters. Let me get something else straight. You use a USB cable from a standard VCR to your PC? Where is the conversion from analog to digital taking place?

I would have thought in the Belkin High Speed USB creator cable Owain told us he was using - that would be the normal way using one of those.

Hi,
I have had problem before. What I did was:
I changed the cable from s-video to composite cable.
Try using composite cable and you will get colour.

How would be the best way to connect the composite cable? I can't figure it out, my heads on each cable don't seem to match up with other heads... it's very confusing!

I tried getting a cable from svideo.com but it was even worse, no picture or sound!

I found this post in another thread:
The s-video cable may well give a black and white output if you do not have an S-VHS VCR. Is the s-video socket you are using actually on the VCR itself or is it on a scart adapter - those will usually only give black and white.
Does he mean the Scart adaptor or the VCR will only give black and white? I'm using a scart cable into the back of my VCR, which has a red and white audio connection and an S-VIdeo connection coming from it that I'm attaching to the Hi-SPeed USB DVD Creator thing.

That gives me black and white with sound, so, how do I get to colour!?!

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

Owain

(Sorry about posting a topic shockingly similar, I forgot I'd been having trouble with black and white for so long!)

You need a scart connector with the red, white and YELLOW RCA (phono) connections connected OUT of the scart to the corresponding connections on the Belkin device

Hi

When I capture from my Vhs recorder I use a Scart adapter with a switch to select either Input or Output, this works.

If I try a Scart that does not have the selector switch I get nothing.

During capture if I have the TV system set to Ntsc instead of Pal I get Black and White. (and a bad picture)

I do not have a Belkin device.

Belkin have released the following information :-
F5U228: Black and White Video Image

Customers call saying that in the Ulead VideoStudio software they can see the video coming through and can capture it ok but it is always in black and white. This is because the capture properties are set to NTSC (America’s video standard) and not PAL (Most of Europe except France).

It does give them the option to select when installing the Ulead software but this does not seem to affect the setting, it ends up on NTSC anyway. Follow these steps to change that option.

1. Open the Ulead video studio ver 6 software, go to the capture screen by clicking the option at the top

2. Click on the options button and select “Capture Properties” from the drop down list .

3. Select “Video Capture Filter” from the drop down list of property types and click on the “Properties” button.

4. Click on the “Image” tab at the top and then in the section “Video Sources” select the “Pal” radio button and click ok, then ok again to get back to the main VideoStudio screen.

5. If the customer still gets a black and white image get them to disconnect the F5U228 then in add/remove programs in the control panel uninstall the “High Speed DVD Creator” and reboot the pc.

Then download the latest PAL driver from our website and install it, reconnect the device (It should be redetected with the new driver) then in the VideoStudio software set the option above back to PAL.
