Vitascene doesn't show up under "transitions", only under FX

Post by oliteitur »

Hi - first time posting. Searched the forum and didn't find my particular problem addressed.

BACKGROUND:

I have VideoStudio X5 Pro, version 15.1.0.34, latest service pack recently installed, running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. (Don't know whether X5 is 64 or 32 bit.)

Yesterday, I purchased the upgrade to Ultimate, solely in order to obtain the various ProDAD, Boris etc. effects and transitions.

Upon purchase I was presented with two files to download:
A) the Bonus pack with all the effects I was looking for (approx 350MB), and
B) X5 Ultimate setup file (approx 1.2GB)

Since I figured I only needed the additional effects, and not the whole program, - assuming from the 'Product Comparison' chart that the bonus effects are the only real difference between Pro and Ultimate - I decided to only download the Bonus pack, NOT the large 1.2GB Ultimate setup file.

After downloading the Bonus pack, the X5 program guided me through the installation of all the bonus features (effects). I simply chose them from a X5-generated list, one after the other.

Everything went smoothly and all of the new components are working absolutely fine, with ONE major exception.

PROBLEM:

The exception is, that Vitascene 2.0 only shows up under the FX tab. It does NOT show up under the A/B transitions tab.

This is a problem, because effects can only be applied to clips and cannot be entered into the timelime as transitions. Therefore, I cannot use any of the transitions contained in Vitascene, except to make a single clip 'transition itself' so to speak, which is rather pointless.

Note: In the A/B transitions tab, the drop-down menu, which is used to filter categories of transitions (My Favorites etc.), does show me the option of selecting ProDAD. Promising! - But if I select it, it returns zero results.

So my question is: Does anyone know how I can get Vitascene to show up under X5's transitions tab?

Or, alternatively, how I can get the Vitascene transitions to work as transitions between clips, even though I can only access them from the X5 effects tab, and therefore have only been able to apply them to a single clip at a time (with the result of that single clip 'transitioning itself')?

Perhaps I need to download and install the Ultimate setup file after all? Seems a bit unlikely, as everything else is working just fine without it.

Many thanks for your time,
Olafur

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Check in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel Video Studio Ultimate X5\vft_plug subfolder and see if there is a proDadVitascene20Corel4.vft file. (There should also be a vitascen.vfx file in the vfx_plug sub-folder). If not, you could try reinstalling.

But though your logical conclusion about not having to install the Ultimate set-up file seems, well, logical  , I suspect you just might have to install it. This is because, as I say, in my set up the relevant sub-folder has "Ultimate" in it... and the Vitascene set up could have been looking for a folder labelled exactly that way, and didn't install it if instead it just found a sub-folder labelled "Corel Video Studio X5"...

Hi Ken

Thanks so much for taking the time to post such a quick reply.

I checked the folders, and both of the files you mention are indeed present in their respective folders.

So the installation seems to have been able to manage, inspite of my program folder being called 'Pro X5' and not 'Ultimate'.

And indeed Vitascene does show up in the program, under the FX tab, where I am able to access both its filter library and its transition library (it seems all of the program's components are available to me), the problem only being that transitions cannot be correctly applied coming from the FX tab.

FYI, I sent the same question to ProDAD technical support, and just now received this response:

"Please deinstall Vitascene V2 and install it from your Corel disc again. Vitascene V2 is running as transition and effect."

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing changed. I will try to follow up with them, in case they come up with a solution.

In case it is relevant, I have X3 installed as well. (Its program folder doesn't have the ProDAD/Vitascen vft and vfx files present, rightly so I guess.)

Any further thoughts much appreciated.

Kind regards and thanks again,
Olafur

Having X3 installed on the same machine should make no difference. A number of us here have multiple versions of VS installed on one computer (it helps in answering questions posted here about those various versions). But they are essentially all fully independent programs.

I am not sure what more I can suggest. I have not really used Vitascene until you raised this problem. But from my brief experimentation, it seems to work fine for me. And I will certainly use it more in future as it appears to have a number of well-executed transitions...

And please let us know if you have any further solutions suggested by proDAD...

Thanks again Ken

I have followed up with ProDAD and am awaiting their analysis of a so-called 'protocol file' which hopefully enables them to identify the cause of the problem. If they do, I will share the answer promptly.

Kind regards,
Olafur
