I think that this has been covered before but a search did not reveal anything.
I am using VS Pro X4 on a Windows XP Pro PC.
When I 'capture' video from by vidcam (DV tapes) using 'split by scene' all the resulting clips all contain the first frame of the following clip.
I had this problem a year ago using my laptop on a VIsta Business platform and though that perhaps the 'problem' had something to do with Vista (well Vista isn't everyone's ideal platform) but now I am experiencing it on an XP PC so I am thinking that it is caused by VS Pro X4.
Is there a fix for this and/or a setting to stop this annoying problem. I am thinking that if No then I should reinstall VS 9, which I never had this problem with, just to allow me to capture video by scene correctly.
Thanks

Re: Split by scene 'problem' using X4
Hi John
I am aware that Video Studio does seem to add that rouge frame, as far as I know it does not show after rendering the video. However during editing can be quite annoying.
This issue has been around for a few years. Video Studio uses some common files for all versions, I am not sure if these will now affect VS9?
Give me a little time and i will run a quick test?
I use Win DV to capture my footage, that program splits the scenes correctly and also allows you to name your captured files.

Why not try WinDV as Trevor suggested. It is tiny and free: from www.windv.mourek.cz Quite a few of us here use it, and I particularly like it for the reason suggested by Trevor -- that it allow us to assign meaningful names to the captured files rather than using VS's rather convoluted naming convention.

Re: Split by scene 'problem' using X4
Hi Ken
I WILL give it a go but meaningful names don't interest me much as I only capture video once a year (after a trip) and usually have 6 or 7 hours of video so hundreds of clips (so I wouldn't worry about giving them meaningful names.
Actually I think that I downloaded Win DV some time ago (on recommendation) but forgot about it (as I usually only capture and edit video once a year).
I will have to ensure that I have an ICON for it on my desktop sitting next to VS X$ Pro so that I get reminded.
Did Corel fix this problem in X5? OR is it caused by a mixture of which Windows, hardware, settings etc etc?
Regards

Re: Split by scene 'problem' using X4
Hi John
The problem has NOT been resolved by Corel, I approached Support back in 2010 and was told it cannot be a problem as I was the only person to report it. Strange as the other poster had done the same.
I guess most users are now memory based and using HD, like you I am still using DV-Avi from a Panasonic GS 400.
I ran a test captures with various versions and the problem occurs with all Corel Video Studio from X2 to X5
Older VS 10 and VS9 capture ok.
I believe the problem is Corel's not related to your Computer, and I am using XP.
I cannot test Windows 7 as the Laptop does not have a firewire terminal?
The good news is that the rouge frame does not show when the project is rendered, and that is something I don't understand?
I have like you used Video Studio from capture to burning the disc, never needed another program as Video Studio did the lot, that is up to Corel taking over.

Re: Split by scene 'problem' using X4
Hi Trevor
Thanks for the info.
Regarding that you stated that Corel replied to you that no one else had reported the proplem. I think that this could be an automatic reponse to either "we don't care" or "it's in the too hard basket" as I experienced constant crashes with VS10 years ago and just got replies "no one else is having those problems".
Anyway we have a work around.
I thought that it was you who also has a GS400. I may have told you in the past that I once had soup spilt on mine a few years ago and various parts of the flip out viewfinder replaced. A year after that different problems started with the flip out. I tried to get it repaired (the flexible cable attaching the flip out to the body) but no parts now available. Would you believe I found a BRAND NEW GS400 (in sealed carton) listed on Ebay in Australia and got it for $300. It was old stock from a company takeover. So I am still using a GS400 which I love due to it's manual 'everything' as well as auto. Maybe I should have bought a brand new HiDef vidcam but to get one with similar features it would have cost at least 3 times the $300.
