I have to manually change the audio setting to capture from the system speakers rather than the mic every time I use it. Its nailed me on more than one occasion, going through hours of lecture and discovering I didn't get the audio.
Is there anyway to change it so it defaults to the speakers? Record the speaker output I mean.
Screen Capture defaulting to mic. Can this be changed?

By the responses, I must have found something for the X6 wish list.

Re: Screen Capture defaulting to mic. Can this be changed?
Hi Gumper
Well you haven’t been ignored, I have been trying different options.
I am using Windows XP and my record option remains as the last selected within VS
I first set the Computers record option to use Stereo Mix.
Then from Video Studio from the Sound Check I chose Rear Audio Input, I also had two Mic options which I ignored.
I found that the program (VS) selected the Rear Audio Input option as default.
Shutting down the pc is the final test, things did seem to alter from one input to another, however this may have simply been me getting confused?
I have just re-booted my PC and X5's record options remained as HD Rear Audio Input.
However the PC's record options did revert to Mic, so for me the problem seems to be the PC rather than Video Studio.
The PC's record options can be selected, I have chosen Stereo Mix , the channel may be called another name depending on the audio driver being used. However re-booting my PC deselected this option, Video Studio remained as set.
So I cannot find a way to set the System Audio / Stereo Mix as default for my PC.
At the moment it does appear to be a PC issue rather than Video Studio.

Also have a look at this thread -- though I am not sure it will solve your particular problem. http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 05#p257305

Re: Screen Capture defaulting to mic. Can this be changed?
Hi and thanks for the replies.
Lata… The “Stereo Mix” work around your describing is actually very similar to the work around that Cam-Studio uses. By installing the Realtec HD Audio Manager, I can use it to record my mic and speaker output simultaneously. Although that requires me to mute/unmute the playback volume each time I want to do it. EDIT: I did try this though for VS and VS still captured the mic only. I still had to set the capture settings to System audio each time I used it.
What I would like to see VS Screen Capture do is to save the settings I choose for audio, etc. From what I can tell, it doesn’t do that. Perhaps in the next version, Corel may change this (or at least it would be really convenient if they would).

Hi
On the image you provided you highlighted "enable System Audio.
Are you saying that this option does not work. Some audio devices are "disabled by the pc"
Ken provided a link to another post that covers this button, Abiel covers this
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 61#p242984
When I click Sound Check I see several options under Input Devices these remain as set they do not change when re-booting the system, which is why I assumed the problem to be PC related rather than Video Studio.
I set HD Audio Rear Input -- the pc allows several channels to use this input (only one can be selected) and its those options that change when re-booting the pc. From the PC I choose Stereo Mix and its this option that is de-selected on re-booting the pc.
I haven't found a way to set Stereo Mix as my PC's default recording channel.
So i guess Video Studio needs a fix to do this for us?

Re: Screen Capture defaulting to mic. Can this be changed?
No, selecting the "system audio" option does work. What I want is after I select "system audio", I can save that option so the next time I need to quickly start a screen grab, I don't have to reset that option again each time I use it. Right now it reverts back to the Voice option after I'm done recording and close.
For Sound Check, I have two options. Microphone and Realtek Digital input. Yes it will stay selected and Mic works for the analog mic I have, but Digital Input does nothing even though I have it enabled.
With Cam-Studio, If you tick the "Show Disabled Devices" option but cannot bring up Stereo Mix in the sound properties, you can install the Realtek HD Audio Manager software and then enable Stereo Mix. This will then enable you to record both the PC audio and Mic audio simultaneously by un-muting the Playback Volume. Your Mic sound will be heard though the Speakers as you talk while playing music set to LOW on your player. Sort of a little hack way of getting around the their system.
I tried this with VS but it didn't work. Not so important to me but would have been nice to have.
Hope all that makes sense.
