I've become quite the X4 user and have some GOOD workflows in place. X4 is extremely stable.
The X4 MANAGE mode is useful.. very useful.. but weak. There are still file managing bugs in Navigation pane, i.e. subfolders roll up when moving files to them, and filesize in pixels is NOT displayed in a mouse-over. Also the PATH is absent from view... and I NEED to know this info when working images of shoots from different days/folders. Also the INFO pane has a LOT of wasted space.
So then.. what improvements does X5 have in the MANAGE space? Also I've not been able to "warm up" to the ADJUST section. Has that changed? No doubt new features have been added to EDIT, but are the existing BUGS and basic missing feature still lacking?

Re: X5 Manage mode - bugs and basic features
One nice thing that they've fixed in X5 is that you no longer have to close all your open images when you move between Edit and Manage. It also doesn't seem to crash anymore when switching modes. You will still lose your custom toolbars when switching back and forth though.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Which basic missing features? Not everyone defines them in the same way. Though I don't think any basic features have been added.

@ed It would be best that you download the trial of PSP x5, to answer all your question. You can download the trial at http://pnoy.me/coreltrials

Re: X5 Manage mode - bugs and basic features
Yep.. noticed that. Which custom toolbars? I can't seem to import or LOAD my toolbars from X4, and it will be a MAJOR PAIN to set them up from scratch. X5 was able to import FOLDERS in my collection, which tool a LONG time! But I need to LOAD a Workspace from X4 with my extensively custom TOOLBARS!! That is a problem.LindaSue wrote:One nice thing that they've fixed in X5 is that you no longer have to close all your open images when you move between Edit and Manage. Re: X5 Manage mode - bugs and basic features
Let me begin with a peeve in Manage mode. I do a lot of sorting and moving files to subfolders. Dropping files in folders (in Manage mode) causes those folders to ROLL UP, which is a real pain. Also I need MORE INFO displayed.. during mouse-overs, on the titlebar, in a status bar, in the INFO area. Working with multiple images from folders with date stamps for names, I need to see the FULL PATH for files, and need to see SIZE in KB, and SIZE in pix, and such info. The General tab on the Info pallet is TOO BIG, area wise and doesn't show this info readily. It must be dragged WIDE to see the data.. and it's a BIG waste of space. I'd like MORE info visible (like date, pix, KB) while mousing over thumbnails in Organizer. There are more usability and context menu issues to describe. Another issue is TABBED images in EDIT mode. Right-mousing should have a CLOSE function.. not there. The context menu(s) should be LOADED with functions! Also what hotkey cycles through the TABBED images in Edit mode?LeviFiction wrote:Which basic missing features? Not everyone defines them in the same way. How does one LOAD or IMPORT their custom toolbars from X4 into X5? This is really a pain!
Thanks,

Re: X5 Manage mode - bugs and basic features
Well, they removed the majority of the functions from the context menus out of concern that it was bombarded with options. They attempted to shrink it down to the necessities. Not saying they did a good job of it though. Odd that one of the options when right-clicking on a tab is to close all other documents. I too liked having the majority of the options at the ready.
I have never had enough of a reason to quickly switch between images I never looked for a shortcut for that. But you're right it doesn't exist. At least not in any readily visible form. I wonder if I can't make a work-around until they come out with that.
I haven't imported my X4 workspace into X5 because X5 doesn't let me dock my palettes to the left-side of the screen like I prefer to do. So I haven't an answer for the toolbars. They claimed to be concerned about workspace compatibility during the beta. Maybe only versions from now on will be compatible with newer software. Then again maybe not. X4 started the trend of workspaces not transferring well.
Good list, anything else?
