VSP X5 Ultimate Screen Recorder System Audio Not Found

Post by Curious Lady »

I'm running VSP X5 Ultimate with SP1 on a Toshiba i7, 8GB RAM and plenty of HD free space. When using the Screen Capture function and, in Settings, switching to system audio, I get a message that no system audio is detected and that I should enable this on my computer. I'm assuming that "system audio" is the feed to the speakers (both of which are working perfectly) and I've been over everything in both Control Panel>Sound and Control Panel>Realtek (not much there) and can find nothing which would "enable system audio". I've never been able to record with the system audio. I searched the VSP forum with multiple iterations of the problem with no luck.

How can I get system audio working in the screen capture?

Hello M,
Stephen John here from Yahoo answers.
Yes, I've solved our issue.
Corel adviser sent instructions.
Please follow the below:-
To enable system audio
1 start menu
2 control panel
3 Hardware and sound
4 Sound;
Click recording tab
put cursor inside box then RIGHT click
then
check or choose "show disabled devices"
(note this only works on Windows 7 and Vista)
5 Right click on 'Stereo mix' and select 'enable'
(note you know when you've done this right as it says 'ready' under the stereo mix)
6 Right click 'Stereo mix' then select properties
7 choose listen tab
(where it says playback through this device click the little arrow and choose SPEAKERS 'Realtek high definition Audio) then click OK
(Note I think ours was set on Default Playback device that caused problem)
8 Then go back to Corel VideoStudio Pro X5
Carry on as normal and evrything should be OK.

If you do encounter problems with my instructions, Corel tech support gives good advice.
Regards,
Stephen John :D

Curious Lady

This problem has been raised before, when I searched for "show disabled devices" I found several posts.

I think this one will cover most issues., as does Stephen's reply.

I fought this same issue time and again until I figured things out. All suggestions point to enabling the Stereo Mix option, but you cannot do this when the option does not exist. I was about ready to give up when I decided to go to my motherboard manufacturer's website. My Sound Blaster Champion Series audio card was not being detected by Videostudio X5 and it does not offer a Stereo Mix option when setting up audio recording device options. Viewing diabled and disconnected devices did not help either. The problem was not with my audio card. The problem is that Videostudio X5 is looking for the integrated onboard audio features and drivers. First I had to go into my BIOs to enable the integrated audio features of the Motherboard. Then I had to locate the current software and drivers for the board. These audio drivers are provided by Realtek. Once I installed the Realtek software and drivers this provided access to the missing Stereo Mix option listed in Recording Devices. I double clicked on Stereo Mix and selected the listen tab. Next I chose Listen to this device. Then I tried Videostudio X5 and finally the option to record system audio is working correctly.
Camtasia Studio does not require all this extra audio driver setup and I was about to jump ship for the competition, but things worked out. Hope this helps others resolve the No System Audio Detected error.

Please understand that the Realtek software and drivers are the key here. Realtek is what provides the Stereo Mix option so Videostudio X5 can record your system audio internally and no rewiring is needed to loop your audio back into a Line in channel. Many audio integrated motherboards use Realtek drivers.

Hi Heavysteel

Thanks for the information, the audio issue has caused lots of problems for some users of Windows 7, as a XP user had no problems.
I was aware that different audio drivers would provide a different approach in setting the options but wasn’t aware that only Realtek worked.

Certainly if VideoStudio is only looking at onboard audio then the software needs fixing.

Again thank you

Hi Trevor,

Please note that I am not saying Videostudio X5 will not work with 3rd party audio cards, but I am saying that I have tried to record system audio with 2 different sound cards in Videostudio X5 and they did not work. Support for 3rd party audio cards is very limited if it does exist at all. The Integrated audio along with Realtek software and drivers seem to be the only working solution. I use a 3rd party audio card to support the use of ASIO drivers when working in a software DAW<<Digital Audio Workstation. The ASIO drivers are recommended, but not required to reduce input latency from your midi controller while working with a DAW.

Please Beware! ASIO drivers disable the ability to record system audio. I have found when working in any DAW that I need to disable the ASIO drivers if I am screen capturing a tutorial or a demo DAW video and I want to include system audio in real time. Conflicts can be created when doubling up drivers. I was lucky and my drivers work together with no noted audio conflicts. The future possibility does exist for a conflict to occur among other software that I have not fully tested.

Note: I did have conflicts when trying to enable integrated audio software and drivers and my 3rd party audio card software and drivers with Windows XP SP3. Windows 7 x64 seems to be fine so far.

Here I have created a small sort of diagram to illustrate what is needed to enable system audio recording in Videostudio X5.
