Removing this empty space in text

Post by Catzware »

Hey everyone,
I have been using PSP9 for many years now. However, after trying out PSP X5 I liked some of the new features, so I decided to upgrade. Now I'm starting to regret it... For some reason, the new version creates this little "empty space" at the end of text which I cant figure out how to get rid of! I attached a screenshot to show you what I mean. Is there any way to remove this?

Thank you.

You don't. :D Okay it's not a laughing matter. The space disappears if you turn them into Raster or Curves. But if you want to keep the text I'm afraid that space is there to stay for now.

That particular bug popped up during version X3 when on-canvas editing was first introduced. And yes they are aware of it, though for whatever reason have not been able to come up with a fix. Not everyone experiences it but most do. For the most part we've learned to work around it. Since the biggest problem is with arranging, though not the only problem, I just create temporary copies of the text object, convert it to curves, then perform any needed alignment options on that. Then I align the text to this new object.

Thanks for replying!

I was afraid it was a bug! I tried converting to path and to curves but it changes all of the colors back to the color of the first letter, so I cant have each letter a different color. Are you sure the X2 version doesn't have the bug? Think I'm just going to go ahead and return X5 and buy X2, its less than half the price on Amazon.

Pretty shocking that a bug like this could exist for three straight major releases.

Yes, that is the problem with vectors. A single object can only have 1 fill and stroke. That's why I always keep a copy of my original text and a copy of the converted. You can, however, convert it to curves and keep each letter as an individual object inside of a vector group.

If you wanted to keep X5 for something it does have I can offer you more work-arounds.

In the Objects menu there is an option to convert to Curves, either as a single object or as separate Character shapes. This second one creates a new object for each letter then places them all into a vector group so they each maintain their letter color.'

Otherwise, I am sure that X2 does not have this issue. This showed up in X3.
