Removing the beginning chapter in top menu

Post by 654321 »

When creating a menu for a DVD, the first chapter defaults to 00:00:00:00, the beginning of the DVD. I don't want to have that be the first chapter. I want to either remove that chapter or change the time location. The option to remove the chapter is grayed out and I cannot find a way to change the time say 00:00:10:00 for example. How can I change the time or delete the 00:00:00:00 chapter? Thanks.

so what would the first bit of the video from 00:00:00:00 to 00:00:10:00 be called ??

if you are using chapters then every part of the video must be allocated a chapter number - if you don't want people to see the first 10 seconds then why not just cut it off in the timeline before you go to "Create Disc" - because if it is not a chapter how will people ever see it.

Or do you mean you want to change just the picture for the first chapter.

Perhaps you could explain how you envisage the menu working if people cannot select the first 10 seconds.

I like to have the first few seconds of the DVD be "blank" so people have time to get settled so to speak before watching. I only have a black screen without music for 5 seconds max. The timecode 00:00:10:00 is just an arbitrary example. I would consider it chapter 1, instead of what seems to be the default timecode 00:00:00:00 chapter 1. If i do have a blank delay for a few seconds, I would like the chapter preview in the menu begin after the blank space and actually where the video begins at whatever timecode I pick.

I cannot find a way to change the default chapter 1 timecode of 00:00:00:00 by deletion or changing the timecode. Maybe there is no way to do it. Just to clarify what I mean, I am in share / create disk / DVD / add chapter. I can remove any chapter I create by clicking on the chapter and then "remove chapter" except the first one at the 0 timecode. That option is grayed out for the default chapter 1. It probably seems kind of petty even to bother but it is just something I would like to customize. Only on one occasion did VS let me actually delete the default chapter 1, but I think that was a glitch in the program as I cannot reproduce that.

If you have any ideas I appreciate it. Thanks for answering.

Couldn't you just insert a brief, black video as number 1 in the burning timeline, then tick the box immediately above viz. "Use first clip as introductory video"? That way the black clip will play before the menu appears, and on the menu only the subsequent clips will appear.

The first chapter always has to start at time code 00:00:00:00 and the 1st chapter can never be removed. Every DVD has to have a chapter 1, even if there is only one chapter in the whole video.

If you want to have a "settling time" for viewers then simply do as Ken suggested and add a blank panel at the beginning of the video. Although I don't see the point of that if you have a menu.

I thought about using the "use first clip as introductory video" but then the "add chapters" is grayed out. On page 134 the manual says that you should not use "use first clip as introductory video" if you want to create menus. So unless I misunderstand, that won't work with what I am trying to do. Oh well.

BTW, I should explain that I am not trying to remove the first chapter. Just change it's location beyond 00:00:00:00.

Chapter 1 has to start at time 00:00:00:00. Also in your first post you said you wanted to remove the first chapter.

I just don't see the point of what you are trying to do

I HATE videos with black spaces in - my grandchildrens Disney videos drive me mad with black sections every where - when I settle down and press 'Play' I expect to see a picture - not a black screen with no sound - I paid a lot of money for my TV I want to watch videos on it not black screen - I can do that without turning the TV on.

So if your viewers need to 'settle down' don't they need a black section at the start of every chapter as well ?

I don't understand your comment that the "Add/Edit chapters" is not available if you use 'Use first clip as introductory video' - after you have selected that do you then click on the main video in the create disc timeline so that it is selected and has a yellow box round it - when I do that the add/edit chapter function immediately becomes available.

Hi

With your project open in the timeline,
First save the project giving it another name that way you preserve the original

Now add colour clips to the timeline chapter positions. Adjust the duration.
You could add some text indicating that the next chapter is about to play, maybe add a little sound to further grab the audiences attention.

Add the chapter points, (what version of Video Studio are you using :?: ) save the project, then Share Create Disc.

Note----You should activate Ripple Editing to keep the original clips in sync when adding the colour clips.

Geez man.

Regardless of the reason and personal opinion - I just wanted to know if you can change the first chapters time code in VS Pro 4 to something other than 0. I see that the answer is no. Thanks.
