Gr-r-r-r PSP X4 Crashes a Lot!

Post by dalematt »

I was not pleased with the amount of crashes of PSP X3 which became the main reason for me upgrading to X4. I am finding that X4 crashes/freezes about once every 3 or 4 times that I use it.

What I have learned to do, when I remember to do it, is to save every time I do something to a photo so that, at least, I don't have to start over again, just pick up at my last save.

Is this a problem that others are finding?

I cant give you a direct answer to your problem. But if it was me I would start looking at 'conflicts' with your computer/other programs.
There are many many folks not having issues. If it was a PSP issue you would think we would all be jumping up and down.
So I would suggest looking at what ever else you have running on your computer and see if it's another program causing your problems.

dalematt,

If the program is crashing consistently, the first thing to note is what are the conditions under which it crashes. What type of editing are you performing? Large MP files, lots of layers, etc. Give us some indications of what you're doing specifically when it crashes.

Thanks for the quick replies.

The only other programs that I have running while on PSP is Explorer, Live Mail, and F-Secure (anti-virus). Next time that I work on PSP, I will turn off the first 2 programs.

I am not capable of doing much with PSP at this point such as layers (senior's learning curve). I do work with RAW photos. For the most part, I deal with contrast, sharpening, digital noise removal, tone mapping, and vibrancy. I will do other things (with the help of notes attained from this site, youtube, and Corel), but not as often. The freezes occur when I am doing the main things that I previously mentioned and when working with the RAW photos after converting them to jpg.

I hope that this is enough information for people to offer suggestions.

Thanks,
Dale

Well, I turned off all programs except for the anti-virus. PSP X4 froze on the third photo that I was working on, :(

Do a few experiments. Try using a very small .jpg file instead of a RAW source and see if you still crash with a much smaller file. If you still crash, make a note of what operation you were performing at the time of the crash. Make it crash a few times and see if there's a pattern to the crashing, or if its totally random. I'm guessing from your earlier comments that its totally random, but make a note of it just in case a pattern appears. Unfortunately, if you're experiencing random crashes for no apparent reason, its going to be very difficult to troubleshoot that type of problem.

any error message? Is it too much to ask if you provide us a copy of the SYSTEM INFORMATION file of your computer?

Just go to START > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM INFORMATION.. Save that as a file and upload it to any of the filesharing service like dropbox or mediafire and place the link to download the file in the forum.
