Hi,
I'm just wondering whether anyone can help with this..
I'm testing the new People tagging feature... organizing and searching seems to be no problem at all... My question though is whether this "tag" information is saved back to the actual files themselves, or whether it is kept separate in a corel database file??? i.e If I reformat my harddrive and then reimport my pictures, will the photos still have their tags!?!?! (photos area stored on a different networked drive)
The "date modified" data of the file has not changed after tagging... I only want to use this feature if the tags can be permanently written to the files.
Thanks,
John

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
On PSP X5, they're saved on a separate file (database - it contains customized photo data, such as ratings, tags, and caption text.) but in order for you backup them up, you will need to export the PSP X5 database. To do that, you can click on FILE > Database Backup > Export.
You can then just import the database by going to FILE > Database Backup > Import.
You can then just import the database by going to FILE > Database Backup > Import.

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
Is there any chance to save tags in the IPTC <keywords> and select pictures in PSP X4 / X5 by these keywords instead of the PSP tags in the PSP database?
It's really not a good idea to save the tags outside the files so that they can't be used without PSP

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
I have a friend with an Apple mac and its image database program. He spent a long time naming images and in that program the search works well.
he then tried to copy some images to a flash drive to give to a friend and found tha the names of the files were still DSC ### ect without the names that he had assigned because the names were only in the database. He was frustrated with that and wanting to change to a program system that would let him name images and have the names carry with the images.
I think this is probably a "feature" of all database image programs (can anyone verify that Lightroom does the same?) and possibly one of the downfalls of having a database of all your image files.

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
According to this post: http://lightroomsecrets.com/2010/11/whe ... ords-live/
Lightroom does save them in its own database, but also either auto-syncs the metadata or allows you to manually write the metadata to the file. Which is the right way to go.
I don't know much about IPTC, could the meta-data be saved out in a way that makes the people tags meaningful? Or would they just be a tag that includes the person's name? That might be a limitation when importing them into a new version of PSP or if you had to reload PSP for any reason. I ask because according to the post above Lightroom does not save synonyms or hierarchical data out with its tags because such options are not supported by the metadata.

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
Ok, that's bad news
I work on my pictures on two different computers with two different Paintshop installations. The only way to do it right is to export and import the database every time? What other information is stored in the database? If I import /export everytime I'm pretty sure that there will be a lot of problems if I forget only once. Right?

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
The problem is that normal Tags are stored in the IPTC <keywords> according to the selected picture. So you can use this Tag (information) with other programs like IrfanView easily. People Tags are not stored in the picture-file itself but in the PSP Data Base and you can not use the information without PSP.
But my problem is different: I search for people faces and I would like to store this information in the picture-file itsel (IPTC <keywords>) so I do not have to use the manual tagging procedure for marking pictures. Does somebody know if that is possible ??

Re: Saving people tags to the actual files
Perhaps this is a suggestion that needs to be made for an update or the next version of PSPX6. For those that use the EXIF and IPTC info and need to be able to add data there (microstock libraries need this) a feature that would allow information to be typed in once and then it is stored in the program database (X4, X5) and has a parallel feature of allowing the information to be stored in the appropriate IPTC section as well if required. In effect an IPTC editor built in .
