they don't have tags or captions. Though I did add tags and captions to other photos after reading the link that lata provided, and that didn't work either.

Now that the patch didn't work - and wouldn't recognize the version of vs - leads me to suspect the app doesn't know what version it is, renaming the 15.0 directory and letting it recreate it might have fixed that - until I exited the program.

the above 2 photos work fine when vs works - so I still don't think it's the jpgs
You're right, it is not the jpegs. I had no problem loading into the timeline, closing VS and loading them again.

Actually, I just tried the update link that Abiel has in his post above and I get the same messages as you did. That could mean that we already have the patched version.

Hi Guys

Update Packs.

If your program is already updated and you try to install the packs again you will receive the message "The installed version of the application could not be determined."

I think Corel should modify this message to "Service Pack Already Installed" ----- would save a lot of confusion?

Afaik the updated version number is 15.1.0.34

Hi

I have downloaded the samples and have no problems in adding them to Video Studio.
I would say the images are not the problem. The tab problem affected all when testing the images.

By the way where are the images stored on the pc, are they on an external hard drive, if so do you turn on the drive before starting Video Studio.?
-----------------------

As an aside.......
I have a problem in running Video Studio X5 on a 64 Bit W7 laptop, I do not know of anybody else having the problem. Affects library content and strange re-link issues?
I do not use the laptop that much so cannot expand on all problems, there may be more issues?

Fix -- I have to run the program in XP Compatibility mode to run ok

Okay, so I took the CD with all of my pictures on it and took it to my work PC that has VS on it. I was able to easily import the pictures on this computer. So it's not the file.

But now I have two separate projects on two separate computers. One has all of the video on it and the other one has all of the jpegs!

Hi nlindelldc

Can you give some more details regarding your images

1 / Where are the images stored on the computer, we assume they are saved to the hard drive.
Is this correct?
As a test --- Create a new folder on your PC's desktop, move a few images to the new folder, Insert images from that folder.

2 / How are you trying to import the images to the timeline.?
Right click the timeline and select Insert Photo-- browse for the Jpeg images,
Is this what you are doing.?

3 / Your profile shows you using Windows 7, did you try running the program in XP Compatibility mode?

The images are on the hard drive. I have attempted to add them from there and I have also attempted to move them to a new folder and add them from there. And I have also attempted to burn them to a CD and add them from there. Same error code every time.

Is this what you are doing.?

I have tried it this way and I have also tried adding them by going to "file" and "insert media to library". Either way I get the same error message

3 / Your profile shows you using Windows 7, did you try running the program in XP Compatibility mode?

This is what I just attempted. The program works fine on my work PC which is running Windows Vista service pack 2. My laptop is running Windows 7, so I attempted to troubleshoot settings and changed ito Windows Vista settings. Still the same error message!

Lata, you are a genius!

I went and changed it to Windows XP settings (not just Vista) and it worked flawlessly! I cannot thank you enough, you have saved me A LOT of work.

So for anyone running VS with Windows 7 who is having this same problem, got to the Corel VS icon on your desktop. Right click on it, then click on "troubleshoot compatibility", "troubleshoot program", and then check "The program worked on earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now".

I then clicked on "Windows XP (service pack 2)" and hit "next". The settings were applied and BINGO! It worked!

Hi nlindelldc

Good news you have managed to import the images.

As far as I know I was the only one having these problems, so welcome to the club, membership is now two.

Out of interest are you using 64 bit or 32 bit.?

Its the 64 that is giving me trouble, the program being installed to Programs Files (x86).
This first caused problems with the sample library, re-linking was a strange affair, did not work and certainly not the normal operation I was used to.
Indecently the re-link for the sample images was looking for X4 location, very strange?

Anyway glad you have it working ..........

All very strange, though. As you will see from my profile, I have an i7 running 64 bit Win 7, and it is a laptop. But I have never had any problem inserting any amount of jpegs into VS.
But handy to bear this solution in mind for others who may experience the same thing...

Thanks everyone, I too am running fine now that I've switched to XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. I really appreciate the input and effort to resolve this, I've been on a lot of different forums for other things and this is the first time there's been real civility and help. Thanks again.
