VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
when i try to add the image tot the timeline I get:
get a popup that says 'these files cannot be added to this project
these files may be of unknown file format, the does not have enough memory, or the file is copyright protected
the images are .jpg, around 1400 kb
it's a brand new empty project
when I try to add i to the library I get 'file format mismatch'

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
You say you took them yourself - using what camera ?
how did they get from your camera to your computer - what did you do and use to transfer them.
did you use any other software programme on them at all before trying to import them to VideoStudio.
where exactly on your computer are the files stored.

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
I took the pictures with a Sony Cybershot dsc-s75, copied them from camera to hard disk via usb cable and windows explorer, they're copied to my documents\my pictures\my camera folder
nothing special, simple straightforward

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
Yesterday after resetting, by renaming the 15.0 directiry and letting vs create a new one
Everything worked fine. Today after starting vs up again the jpgs were in my library
But dont show up in preview and cant be added to the library
And other jpgs cant be added to library or timeline with same errrors as yesterday
Getting a little frustrated with this app

I doubt very much that it is the program otherwise users would be reporting that problem a lot. It is more likely something in your system (registry cleaner, antivirus) that is changing/corrupting something.

I hear the logic in what you're saying.
However I don't think the .jpgs themselves are being corrupted. I can load them in GIMP 2.0, Microsoft Picture Manager, manipulate them, save different versions of them, leaving the raw versions alone without a problem.
Could there be a config setting in vs that is getting corrupted?
Running Norton Security here.

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
Can you upload a couple of the problem jpegs to a free website such as Up4Down or 4Shared? We could then have a look and test the images to see if we can duplicate the problem.

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
I will upload some of the .jpgs.
I am convinced it's something in the settings of VS X5. Tonight I was able to delete the 15.0 folder again, restart VS X5, received a message that my GPU wasn't sufficient for Blue FX and some things may not display properly. However it continued loading and all the .jpgs in my library were available in the preview window, able to be put in the timeline, ran fine in a project. Until I closed out of VS X5 and went back in. Then the jpgs were still in my library but wouldn't appear in the preview window. videos in the library appear in the preview window but the jpgs wouldn't.
I've since tried deleting the 15.0 directory and restarting , even rebooting, a few times and I can't get the .jpgs to appear in the preview window.
loading a saved project, the jpg appears on a track but doesn't play in the preview window either.
relinking jpgs doesn't help either.
thanks for support, feel like I'm flaying around blindly.

Hi
I was about to reply a few days ago till you posted that you had cured the problem.
There was an issue using Jpegs that had tags applied to the meta data.
Cannot remember the exact details but the user had given each image a name within the camera, adding a tag.
Have you done anything like that.?
Re-saving the images using an image editor cured the problem?
I'll search the forum to see if i can find the post? found it

as an aside......

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
I am having this same exact problem. This is the first time that I have attempted to put in photos from my wife's Cannon camera. I don't know if that is the key or not. I have also tried saving them in different formats (bmp vs. jpeg) and I have tried editing them with a photo editor as mentioned above. Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful.
My hunch is that it thinks the photos are copyrighted because it's certainly not because the computer doesn't have enough memory

You may also want to try and update your VS X5 -- http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=4700015

I tried to update VS with the link provided - downloaded the patch, started it running, go a popup saying
"The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate" The system has not been modified....to install this program at a later time run the installation program again.

Re: VideoStudio X5 - cannot import .jpg s I took myself
I uploaded 2 of the photos here
http://www.4shared.com/folder/n56ID8ca/_online.html
they don't have tags or captions. Though I did add tags and captions to other photos after reading the link that lata provided, and that didn't work either.
Now that the patch didn't work - and wouldn't recognize the version of vs - leads me to suspect the app doesn't know what version it is, renaming the 15.0 directory and letting it recreate it might have fixed that - until I exited the program.
the above 2 photos work fine when vs works - so I still don't think it's the jpgs
