/me has given up and moved to other pastures...

I am not sure what Corel is doing. They have either given up on ASP; or they have decided to wait with an update until the program is stable and bug-free enough.

Let's pray it's the latter! I have no desire to learn another package.

I understand your decision, Dave. As a pensioner, I can afford to wait, at least for a while. After all, it the new version doesn't come out in my lifetime, I am going to be the last person to worry about it LMAO.

My hope is in the next version that we see real changes, not only updated camera support,
For me only updated camera support makes me jumping into Darktable!

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can use that thing I must admit. The UI does everything to slow down the user and the silly idea of having to import images (and that even without a decent DB) just makes it totally unbearable.

Thank you afx!
I more than agree. And the fact that it's not due to a technical problem but only a matter of choice, is not the kind of answer I was expecting. (www.darktable.org/2012/07/darktable-1-0-5-released/)
The dev team of Bibble wouldn't have act like this.

cheers.

Darktable is a little cludgy, and there are too many ways to do the same thing. ...But the Darktable team adds new cameras all the time. They use an open-source lens repository that makes it trivial to add your lens. They are transparent and open in their development. They explain why they do things. And they respond within 24 hours to every inquiry.

I expect Darktable to improve. In fact, since I have an open dialog with the Darktable developers I know it will improve. The Communicate. Corel doesn't know how to do any of this.

Pick your future.

Just because they communicate, does not mean the tool heads in the right direction. Too much ideology involved.

ACK
Pick your future.

I think pick your poison is more appropriate.

I don't know if it means anything but the 40% discount on AFP ends on November first. Maybe that is D-Day for an update :)

1st of November? Let's hope so. The 2nd of November is All Souls - known in many other languages as "The Day of the Dead"....

I'd urge folks to take a look at the Darktable Roadmap of planned features:

http://darktable.org/redmine/projects/darktable/roadmap

I don't know what Corel is planning for ASP, but I do see some innovation among the developers working on Darktable and its open source.

Yes, you don't know if they really implement this functions or when they will. I would look what is currently working, check image quality, stability and so on. Switching because they (maybe) implement a required function in future, I don't know.
