Hi,
I have some old VSP files that I tried to relink with X5. It doesn't work. I point X5 at the new location for the source files and it -says- it relinked all files but really it only replaced the first one and lost all the edits. I opened the .VSP file with a hex editor and clearly see the 3 different files it is supposed to relink.
Disappointing. (being polite).
Perhaps the problem is that I use UNC paths now (\\server\Videos\path\....) but the real problem is that VSP files include absolute paths. There should be an option (or perhaps even the default) to use relative paths. That way you can move your projects around as long as the source files stay in the say location relative to the VSP file.
Sometimes I wonder if the nice folks at Corel even use their own software. I don't mean to make trivial edits of a few short demo clips but -real world- editing and maintenance of old projects as PCs are upgraded and VS goes through its own upgrades. Surely if they did then these types of problems would not exist. I test software for a living so I understand how hard it can be to have realistic testing scenarios but still. We understand that we need true customer emulation testing on top of functional testing.
Best,
Sander

Hi
If you capture or import your files to the PC and save them to the same folder.
Subsequently create a project a VSP.
Then move the original files to another location the program will request a re-link.
This should re-link all files within that folder.
-------------------
If the original files are fragmented, saved to different locations and you move them to a single folder then you may have to re-link several times.
-----------------
Smart Package
The program provides means of wrapping all files used in a project to a single folder.
This folder can be moved to another PC for further editing.
You may need to re-link, but only once.
