Upgraded from X4 to X5 - cannot IMPORT my LIBRARY

Post by jowauk »

I have today UPGRADED TODAY from X4 to X5, and applied the latest patches. Before UPGRADING I went into X4 and EXPORTED my Libraries, assuming that I would be able to IMPORT them back into X5.

Having loaded X5, I try to IMPORT the LIBRARIES that I had exported from X4, and VS X5 says "cannot recognise files" or something similar, meaning I look like having to manually reload all my Library materials which will take me probably DAYS !!!

Have I missed something - there ARE a load of what look like correct files in the folder that I used to EXPORT to from X4 - but when I point X5 at this folder it doesn't want to know ???

SURELY it must be possible to bring forward your Work In Progress foundation Libraries (Titles, Music, Intros etc) to new releases.

For the Upgrade I used the BOXED set discs from Corel - not a download process.

Any ideas gentlemen - please give me back my upcoming weekend :)

Regards

John

Hi John

Unfortunately not.

Please read this article from the Corel Knowledge Base

Many thanks for that link Trevor - at least that's better than a NO.

I had already started thinked about something like that - still it's a very tedious exercise.

VERY BAD form from COREL that there is no proper way to do this given that they surely want to encourage people to move UP.

This issue may well have prevented me from buying X5 if I had thought that using it would require such a consumption of my time - which will probably now only be half a day rather than the whole weekend.

I am pretty organised with how I file media in folders - BUT - with hundreds of categorised audio tracks, many tens of different title clips, lots of intro/outro clips, re-assembling them for X5 is not trivial.

Your rapid feedback is greatly appreciatd and I will fax to some money in return :)

Regards

John

Hi John

I have looked into the problem of exporting the libraries from X4 to X5 a few times, well actually a lot of times.
I may have found the file that holds the library details, at least one of them, there may be more than one?
I haven't had time to repeat my tests to confirm that it works with all library pages, and that where you come in.

First backup your VS X5 library, if you need to.

Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\14.0\en-US

There is a file called VS_AllMediaView.dat
Copy this to the same folder structure for 15.0\en-US

Take care not to corrupt the files for X4

Open VS X5 and view the library
