UDVDW2 16:9 Menus

Post by Coral »

It is a pity that DVD Workshop does not cater for 16:9 menus. Nevertheless it is possible to change the menu format quite easily using the freeware Infoedit.

There is need to prepare the backgrounds with all the artwork before uploading into DVDW2. Use backgrounds prepared for a 16:9 menu and merge any artwork or text. With a draw application (like PhotoImpact) use a canvas for 3:4 (768x576). Then copy and paste the 16:9 menu background. Use the Transform tool with a free aspect ratio to fit the16:9 background into the 3:4 canvas. Save As.

Use the prepared backround in DVDW2 and finish the authoring. Do not burn to DVD, just produce a VIDEO_TS folder.
Make a copy of the VIDEO_TS folder to have a backup. Open Infoedit and follow the numerical sequence in the picture.
All menus including thumbnails will be converted to the 16:9 format.

Hi Coral

Thanks for the information, I do not use DVD workshop but sure users will find this tool interesting. I guess DVD W2 is pretty old not supporting 16:9.

DVD Workshop 2 does support 16:9 movies but not as regards menus. The menus (both title and chapters) are displayed as 4:3. Any movie is played in it's original resolution
