I got this message whilst using X5 Pro Ultimate
The programme has encountered an unspecified error and stopped functioning
Please contact Corel Tech Support and send the dump files for analysis.
C:/DOCUME~\KEN\LOCALS~1\temp\vstudio_15.0.0.258_20120925_236415.DMP
I tried to open it again and got the encountered a problem and needs to close message.
Rebooted and so far it seems ok.
Is there any point in contacting Corel?

Re: Unspecified error X5 Pro Ultimate-asked to contact Core
If VideoStudio is now working correctly again there is no point in contacting Corel - it was just a transient glitch on your computer which caused VideoStudio to throw a wobbly.
If VS is not working correctly or if it happens repeatedly then you may need to contact Corel.

Re: Unspecified error X5 Pro Ultimate-asked to contact Core
I have been using VS for at least 3 years and VS4 for well over a year I think
Almost every edit I do I see this error, to the extent that I can usually predict when itis imminent. It seems to occur when you try to flip between editng a clip, and then selecting the PROJECT in the clip window and timeline to now see the effects of the most recentclip edit along with the associated clips and titles either side. It just fails with this message about 80% of the time when such a process is carried out. It is SO predictable I sincerely hope that it dissapears when I upgrade to VS5, which I am about to do. BUT I know I also saw this in VS3 before going up to VS4 Pro, so maybe I am being ambitious in expecting it to go away with VS5 ?? I am using a very decent level PC with dual processor, 4GB and 2 x 750 fast drives. I have NOT reported to Corel as it seems pointless from what I have seen in these Forum posts.
Any comment on my ambition with VS5 warmly invited
Can I expect toi see it all over again with VS5 ?
Despite this significant frustration, I do still rate the VS solution as it does all of the basic things very well and is very intuitive compared to others I have used, including Premier Pro which is v good but less intuitive.
Regards
John

John, could you give a more detailed description of what you are doing to "generate" the error? From your post it is not that clear what you are doing.
I have never had that error appear when "flipping" between clip and project but then I may not be doing exactly what you are doing.

What version of Quick Time are you using?
Try using 7.5.5 to see if it improves things......

Trevor - using Quicktime 7.7.2 already - I presume I would not want to go back to prior versions ?

Re: Unspecified error X5 Pro Ultimate-asked to contact Core
Canuk - you asked for a bit more detail.
I can be sat in X4 happliy trimming clip after clip in the timeline - no problem - drop in a few titles - no problem - move a clip from one position to another - no problem - apply some transitions, add music, trim music, fade music down at certain points etc etc - all with no problem.
NOW I wantt o just see how all of those changes play, so I click "Project" under the clip window, OR sometimes I just click in the timeline REGION which puts X4 into Project rather than clip mode, and then pless PLAY to see my project with the moist recent changes applied. BANG - almost every time, but not quite every time, I get the same message this thread started with - send dumps etc to Corel.
I have consequently UPGRADED TODAY to X5, and applied the latest patches. Before UPGRADING I went into X4 and EXPORTED my Libraries assuming that I could IMPORT them back into X5.
So here now is my next problem - having loaded X5, Itry to IMPORT the LIBRARIES I had expeorted from X4 and VS says "cannot recognise files" or something similar, meaning I look like having to manually reload all my Library materials which will take me probably DAYS !!!
So any ideas on this latest challenge guys - I will create another post in the Forum here now.
Regards

Re: Unspecified error X5 Pro Ultimate-asked to contact Core
Hi John
There have been problems with some versions of Video Studio using the later versions of QuickTime. Users found that auto updates caused some problems.
I do not know if Corel have fully addressed the issue with X5
Reverting to an earlier version of QT has cured some crashes for some users.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41374
I believe X4 provides QT 7.5.5 as did earlier versions I think as far back as VS10.
Hence my recommendation to use that version.
I realise that using an earlier version may affect I=Tunes, should you use that.
Of course the choice is yours........
But again it has been a known issue..........
