Official Statement from Corel
Official Statement from Corel
I am really interested in buying ASP but am a bit unsure after reading the posts here.
Is there any statement from Corel answering the following:
will Linux be supported in the future
will Corel bring updates in the future (Win/Linux)
Thanks
Dave

Re: Official Statement from Corel
You won't get a reply from Corel here (it's a user to user forum). However, there has been a statement on Facebook saying that they have the next version in beta testing. Although there is a lot of negativity here it is only from a tiny percentage of the user base. If you go back a few years then you will see exactly the same talk when Corel bought JASC but Paint Shop Pro has continued.

FWIW, the FB statement also includes a stated commitment to a linux version.

... and at least, there's been some progress in the last few weeks (see attachment; ver. 1.1.0.14 is of today).

Encouraging!
Now, if they would only allow it to be tested by the critical voices ....

Well, nobody ever gets to hear the critical voices, as the beta forum is not maintained by Corel and everything falls into the black hole of the monkey.Dutchmm wrote:Now, if they would only allow it to be tested by the critical voices ....

What about a question mark in the subject? I was nearly fainting by the idea that there was an official statement in here ...

Re: Official Statement from Corel
Dutchman you are not the first and only one to bash/put down/ the current round of beta testers... I find it interesting that you think we do not raise your concerns in our comments back to the monkey... sometimes we even qoute your exact words on the monkey... Just because concerns are not addressed does not mean the beta testers did not raise the issues (often several times)!

That isn't what I meant. What I meant was that many people - myself included - have expressed polite scepticism as to the existence of the test version Corel mentioned in their FP page. I should just like to see some evidence of the continued future developments. As I have said before, a more public beta process would inspire more confidence among the users and prospective users.
It is true that some people have lambasted the beta process that Bibble Labs and more recently Corel has run. As I haven't suffered from the pink highlights, I haven't been one of them. As I again chose the wrong numbers for the lottery this week
, I haven't got one of the latest and greatest cameras, either. I just want to know what is going on; as many other people in this forum.
But it would be nice if the discussion in this Corel forum were as constructive and co-operative as it used to be in the days of B5.

Re: Official Statement from Corel
Or perhaps people are just tired of the non-response to issues raised for incomplete software. 3 years of this has become quite enough, don't you agree?

Just don't blame the beta-testers like they have any control over the matter...

Re: Official Statement from Corel
It isn't the people (beta testers) we are criticising. It is the beta test people have been slating. A good beta test would have a published list of assertions for the test to verify; and as long as those assertions could not be verified, the product would not go out.
Everyone accepts that the beta testers, as well as the users, have submitted the bugs they have found. What concerns me and, I intuit, many other users is the use that is being made of the faults people report; whether that be in live or test versions.
While we all understand the need for commercial secrecy, there is enough mistrust of the beta process, and of future development, for Corel to need to be more open about what is happening, and what they are going to do to fix long standing concerns.
Corel bought a very good product with some well documented faults. It appears that they have cast off the staff they bought with the product. They may have instilled better discipline into the release process. They may be addressing the faults people have been complaining about for three years. They may be including this year's slew of new cameras from Photokina. It may be a flying pig I can see in my crystal ball.
