How do I make an insert edit?

Post by mikesilve »

Hi
How do I make an insert edit in VS9?

I have the main clip and a copy of the audio as a seperate track. I want to insert a cut-away whilst preserving the audio track.

I can add as a full-screen overlay but I want to put a cross-fade or dissolve between the main clip and insert clip which doesn't seem possible using an overlap.

Overlap seems a long-winded way of making a simple insert edit. Am I missing a trick somewhere?

Thanks
Mike

I have never used VS other than VS 5 years ago. Can't remember how that worked. In MSP 7, you split the audio from the video, cut the video and remove the section you do not want and replace it with another clip of the same duration as the cut-out section.

You will have to use your manual to work out how to do this in VS 9 or wait for another user of VS 9 to come along.

Good luck

I'm not sure I did understand what you're trying to do, but overlays CAN be faded in and out in VS9, and even slided over the main track.
Check on the Attribute tab.

And you could also cut the original video in two parts, disable the unwanted center sections, and then insert the extra bit inbetween the remaining footage.
