When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
I bought VideoStudio x5 about 3 weeks ago, there has been a bit of a learning curve but I am starting to get what I want. I still cant figure out one problem. I am screen capturing with another program because well videostudios screen capture doesn't work that well. My program produces AVI's and I bring them into video studio and piece them together. When I piece videos together, it skips for some reason a second or 2 into the second track. I have tried converting to mp4, hdv 720p - 30p (for PC), AVCHD (1820x720 60P), "Same as first video clip" and they all do the same thing.
Here I have a youtube link to a video that I converted from AVI to mpeg and you can hear when I say "Naming Conventions" there is no problem
http://youtu.be/Tx-ggVQ8CPo
Here I have a youtube link to a video that I combined 2 seconds from a previous clip and when I say "Naming Conventions" you can hear the problem.
http://youtu.be/7D0MRrPGpjU
Anyone have any help on this? Thank you very much.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
When you say 'combining' clips, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean stringing the individual clips along in the timeline and then selecting Share > Create Video File to 'combine' them all into a new video? Or do you perhaps mean you overlap them in the timeline?

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
Putting a clip in the time line main video track, going to near the end and splitting the clip after I stop talking with the scissor tool and deleting the right part of the clip (the left over).
Then I drag another clip to the right of the first clip in the timeline main video track area and go a few seconds into the beginning of that video and use the scissor tool again and delete the middle track (the beginning left overs from the second track)
Then I go to share --> create video file
So there is no overlay track involved in this process.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
Any chance of you uploading the 2 clips to a free website from which we can download (Up4down.com or 4Shared.com are two such sites). We can then download and do some tests.
A workaround might be to create a each clip separately to a new file and then add those new files to a new project.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
Ok I made a 2 test recordings that you can download at the website that was mentioned above.
test1 and test2 are .avi files that my program produced.
I put them in the timeline back to back (this time I did not to any clipping) and in the playback before I create the video it sounds fine. I then created video and the result is the file
test12
which you can hear an obvious skip. You can find the files here:
http://www.upfordown.com/pupload/view/81646
Since I am new to the program I figure it is something I am doing wrong.
I just got the brilliant idea to make a screen capture of the exact process I used so you can see if I am making some obvious mistake. Now I have tried going to all the formats I mentioned in the first post and even a few more and they all produce the same result.
www.upfordown.com said this file was too big so if you want to see exactly how I made the file it can be seen at this youtube link.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
Doing some more troubleshooting I split the audio from both clips and did nothing else but create a video and it had the same problem.
Then I deleted the first videos sound so it was just the first video visually and the second video both visually and audio, it still had the skipping.
Then I deleted the first video and move the sound over to the left to match the second video and it came out fine.
Something about putting videos next to each other is making it skip.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
Yes, I put the files together and I believe I iused the same output settings as you used to create the Test12.mpg. I do not get the "blip" that is present on your file. My mpg file and yours are the identical size and have exactly the same properties. When I look at the blip area of your audio file I notice a about .5 sec "gap" where the audio seems to have been split and the gap inserted. This does not show up on my file. Also your whole audio clip is at a different position on the timeline from mine.blah2425 wrote:Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know what that all means.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
What do you mean by my files are at a different part of the timeline? Did you watch the youtube video of how I did it? I just dragged and dropped, and then the video clips automatically move to the left. Is my time frame different or something?
I found a review on amazon and the guy was having the same problem, here is the part where he explains in his words.:
Next Problem: Sound Stuttering: The Blu-Ray discs this software cranks out are visually beautiful, excellent quality, virtually no noticeable drop in quality from source to output whatsoever. But if you don't use transitions between video segments, there are sound gaps between scenes. These are skips in the sound, like the software was choking during conversion or someone hitting "mute" for a fraction of a second on every scene change (and the sound from the next scene, when it finally kicks in, jolts you into annoyance).

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
If you didnt have the problem it would lead me to believe that it is either a setting or a codec or something on my end that is causing the problem.

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
I am not going to read all the reviews on the Amazon link you posted. If you have a specific "review" in mind then post a link to it. Anyway that whole article refers to VS X4 and not X5.
The mpg I created used the identical settings you used (this includes the same codec).

Re: When Combining clips I get a sound skipping
I posted the part that I thought was relavent, which is just the fact that someone else has had this problem before. No need to read any of it.
I dont know anything about codecs, does the fact that we both made the file with the same codec mean that the codec is for sure not the problem? Or is it possible that I could have a corrupt or outdated codec?
If it is not the codec then my next best guess would be a setting of some sort in the program.

The following two images show the settings used for your project (left) and my project (right)
If you campare the settings you will see they are identical
(orgTest12 is your project and Test12 is my project)

Yeah they look identical, I will try to do some more trouble shooting on settings. Thank you for looking into it.
