VideoStudio X5 Pro Ultimate "Unspecified Error"

Post by willandrews »

I just purchased VideoStudio X5 Pro Ultimate and I cannot use it.

It crashes on load. The actual error is "This program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical support and send the dump file for analysis"

It appears a number of people are having this issue and there does not appear to be a solution

I checked the dump file using Visual Studio and the exception is "The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address to which it does not have appropriate access"

Great, a threading problem. I suspect this is a bug.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, direct x 11 (which I have updated)

I have:

Tried using Quicktime 7.5
Updated direct X
Updated my video drivers
Uninstalled and reinstalled making sure I ran as an administrator
Tried the "profile reset"
Made sure I am running as an administrator
Set the compatibility to XP

Looks like a bug to me.

I have contacted tech support but I am not hopeful about a solution.

One other thing you could try would be to set up a new user Profile with Admin rights, then switch(log-on) to that new profile. Then try installing VS. If that works, you can later delete the new Profile...

You may also want to try to run the application as an ADMIN. Right-click on the VS X5 icon then select RUN AS ADMIN. You may need to provide your admin password to complete the process.
