another unspecified error
I'm beginning to wish I had never heard of VideoStudio. My level of frustration has reach a boiling point. I purchased VS Pro x5 a couple of months ago. I have been able to successfully burn several discs from home movies made on a digital camcorder. The files consist of mpeg and mov. Recently, VS would stop responding and freeze until windows forced closed the program. Typically, it will only crash when in the create disc module when disc menus and chapters are being created. Sometimes I'm lucky and make it through to the actual rendering and burn process which had worked without a hitch. I uninstalled/reinstalled and software with no change. I found, however, that if I import the project file directly into the create disc module the number of crashes reduced quite a bit. Now, when rendering a video, I get the "The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical Support and send dump file for analysis." I have discovered that the directory that the dump file is located does not even exist. I went back and tried to render some of my older projects that were previously burned successfully and now I get the same error. My current project completes exactly 31% before the error no matter how many times I try. My old project hangs at 58% at each try. It's not a burning problem because the same thing happens whether I'm burning a disc or just creating the video file in DVD format. I essentially have a worthless piece of software right now. I have tried to once again uninstall/reinstall, reset back to factory settings, update the utilities, install SP1, etc. as has been mentioned here before all with no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: another unspecified error
Some users have found that a Motion menu causes problems like yours. All I can suggest is that you try unticking the 'Motion Menu' box on the Edit tab of the menu creation part of the burning process. To save creating a coaster, instead of burning a disc, just create and ISO or DVD folder...

Re: another unspecified error
Hi
Are you saying that with the project open in the timeline and you Share Create Video File-DVD that the program freezes or errors at 58% every time you try.
What is in the timeline at 58%
You say you are using some Mov type files.
What version of Quick Time are you using.
Some issues occurred with earlier versions of Video Studio and the latest versions of QT
Try re-installing Quick Time 7.5.5, this may affect I-tunes, if you use those types of file.

Re: another unspecified error
Hi,
Thanks for the input. VS tends to freeze mostly when creating video file or burning a DVD with the project in the timeline. If there is nothing in the timeline and the .vsp file is loaded directly into the "share" module I have much few crashes. The problem with the unspecified error, however, still occurs regardless of whether the project is in the timeline or not. I have looked at both vids that were only partially rendered (before unspecified error) to see if there are any problems with different file formats, corrupt files, etc. and there is nothing unusual about them where the errors occur. There isn't anything specific added into the timeline itself that should cause a problem either. I had twice successfully rendered and burned the same video that now gives me this error. I don't think the disc menus are part of the problem since I have the same problem with just creating a video file.
My current version of QuickTime is 7.7
Thanks Again

Re: another unspecified error
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have installed QuickTime 7.5.5 but the error remains. Technical support has offered no solutions so far except system restore which is not an option. Thanks.

Re: another unspecified error
Hi
There are several distinct methods of burning a DVD.
First is to create a video file of the project, a compliant Mpeg2 file.
With the project open in the timeline ---- Share Create Video File DVD.
Then from a new project, (nothing in the timeline) Share Create Disc--Add Media-add your new video file.
The video is burned to disc without further rendering.
You may be best to create a Disc Image or DVD Folder rather than burning the disc, this will test out the burn process with the exception of actually burning a disc.
These files could then be burned to disc.
-------------------------
Second, from a new project Add Media Files Add the VSP, the process will render the project to a Mpeg2 compliant file saved to a temporary folder, this file being used to burn the disc.
You may be best to create a Disc Image or DVD Folder rather than burning the disc.
------------------------
Thirdly, with the project open in the timeline go directly to Share Create Disc.
The process will be same as 2 above. Render a new Mpeg2 file prior to burning the disc
If you have any problems using the last two options you should use option one.
-----------------------
Option one.........
Share Create Video File, do you have any problems rendering the project?

Re: another unspecified error known issue
Solved ..but not fixed ... On 9/24/12 I sent an email to support saying that with the new installation of pro x5, the program crashes each time I try to burn a dvd.
After nearly 3 weeks and numerous emails on my part I received this email today.
I am very irritated. I have been a loyal customer for many many years. That is about to end. This product and the support for it (or lack there of) is just not worth my time. But to save you all out there I am providing this info about this KNOWN ISSUE.
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
I apologize for the delayed response; I was waiting for feedback from a colleague to confirm a few things with respect to this issue.
I regret to inform you that this is a known issue that has been reported to our Engineering team. At this point in time, I have no solution to provide but can suggest a workaround in order to allow you to burn a disc but it does have a drawback. In the first stage of the Create Disc window you can remove the check for Create Menu which will allow you to move to the last step and create a disc (If you do not see this option you will need to expand the Advanced Editing). The downside to this workaround is that you will not be able to create a DVD menu for the disc. This is an issue that will require a patch to resolve and at this point in time I cannot provide a date that this patch will be released. The program will automatically check for updates when being used and if you see any pop up messages indicating a patch is available I encourage you to install them. I will forward your case to the appropriate team so that they have your specific information to assist in developing a solution.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.

Re: another unspecified error
Hi webpdq
Not a very promising reply from Corel, we are aware of some users having problems in burning discs, one such problem was associated with Motion Menu's and Background Audio, I believe that issue was fixed.
I mentioned earlier several approaches in burning a dvd, I assume you have created a video file of your project, then used that compliant file to burn the disc. This approach overcomes the need to render the files in the burner module.
Your post seems to indicate a problem in creating the menu's? Something that is essential in burning the disc.
How are you trying to burn the disc?
