Audio / video out of sync

Post by MonkeyBoson »

Hello forum,

I just downloaded the VideoStudio X5 Trial, and want to crop a 10-minute video of my baby to the minute she's singing. Her grandparents would love it.

I noticed that when I imported the video into the timeline, the audio was about 0.75s ahead of the video, when in "Project" mode. In "Clip" mode it looked/sounded fine. When I render the video, it also has the same sync problem as in "Project" mode.

Here are the details of the video:

Video type: H.264 Baseline Profile Video
Total frames: 18,430
Attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720
Frame rate: 29.908 frames/sec
Data rate: 11965 Kbps

Audio type: MPEG AAC Audio
Total samples: 29,736,960
Attributes: 48000Hz, 16 bit, stereo
Bit rate: 96 Kbps

Any ideas how to fix this? Is this a driver issue or something?

Thanks!

Are those the source video properties or the the rendered video properties?
List the properties of the "other" video.

You could also try disabling SmartRender by un-ticking the relevant box ("Perform SmartRender") in the Options dialogue box which appears when you go to Share > Create Video File > DVD (or the format you are outputting to).

Thanks for your replies! The specs I posted were for the source video. For the purposes of this test, I rendered the video "Same as First Video Clip", so the output specs are the same.

Turning off "smart render" didn't help, unfortunately. Perhaps the root of the problem is whatever is causing the unsync in the preview pane when in "Project" mode? If so, render settings might not help.

More information: If I mute the video, and then add the video to the "sound" track, I can slide around the sound track to manually sync up the audio. But after about 15 seconds of watching, the audio is unsynced again. It's like the audio and video are running at different speeds, even though, when imported, they appear to be the same length on the track pane.

This is very peculiar.

It's even weirder that everything works fine when viewing the video in the preview pane (provided the preview is in "Clip" mode), and also in an external media player (windows media player).

Also, if I turn on the Sound Mixer, the visualization clearly follows the unsync version.

Just thinking out loud here... but the properties are NTSC and I am wondering if you live in a PAL country and/or have VS set up in PAL mode...?

Can you also tell us the brand and make of the camera that you use to capture the video?

I live in Canada... pretty sure we use NTSC here.

As for the brand of Camera, it's my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone, set to 1280x720, superfine.

Solved: Well, I uploaded the original video to youtube, then ripped it using keepvid. The resultant video seems to work in VideoStudio just fine without any sync issues.

Boy, I sure hope I don't have to do that every time :?
