Where have my gradients gone?
Ok I've hit a snag or gone brain dead!
In x4 I have 75 Gradients in the Materials Pallet/Properties. A number of custom ones.
I've just opened up the same in x5 and have only 15. Same folders!
So why won't x5 load the Gradients used in x4?
Is there a setting some where I have missed?
Thanks.

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
Hi brucet,
I don't have X5 yet, but I do know a few things about gradients in X4.
File/preferences/file locations shows me that gradients are stored in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X4\Corel_06 <-- for Corel gradients
C:\Users\YourNameHere\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\14.0\Gradients <-- for custom gradients.
Try opening File/preferences/file locations in X5 and add the X4 locations (especially the YourNameHere custom location for example). Or, copy the files from the X4 locations to the X5 locations. I assume "Corel\paintshop pro x5" and documents\corel paintshop pro\15.0\gradients

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
Now PSPX5 does not come with all of its normal gradients already installed like previous versions do.
The Corel Guide has resources you can download under the "Do More" tab. These resources are all of the original material PSP used to come with. So if you haven't downloaded and installed those gradients that is a small portion of the problem.

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
Thanks guys. I found where the gradients 'should' be. I was just surprised that there were so few of them.
I wonder why Corel deleted them. It's not as though they were a software rewrite or anything. In my opinion it's one less selling feature.

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
They didn't delete them, they just made it an extra download. And are in fact using these now extra downloads as a selling feature because they mention being able to download all of these things for "FREE."

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
In a way, it's no bad thing. Personally, I don't use a lot of the features such as gradients, masks, custom brushes, and so on. Cutting them out of the basic install reduces the file download size and speeds up installation. I imagine that a lot of users will be like me. If anyone needs a particular feature they can download the 'extra' resources via the Corel Guide.
TOP TIP: Paint your lawn blue. If someone uses Google Earth to check out your home, they'll think you own a swimming pool.

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
With X5 most of the gradients and brushes and textures and things like that are not part of the default installation. You can download all of the normal content from the Corel Guide. So they aren't all exactly missing you just have to take an extra step to get most of the default content that you're used to with other versions of PSP.
They did save download space and time with photo frames, textures, masks, and the like. Gradients....the installer for gradients is larger than the gradient files themselves so they didn't save much space with those.

Re: Where have my gradients gone?
i kinda disagree. i've just downloaded 11 plugins.
confirming them and installing them has taken twenty minutes and i'm still going. 11 UAC prompts, 11 licence agreements. 292MB hiding in program data. if i'd bought the boxed version i would be spitting.
i notice the do more screen has pricing. albeit that they are all free. but generally when people force you into an electronic market place to get free stuff it's to normalise you to the procedure in advance of selling you something.
and why is the gradients download 9MB when the entire gradients directory on my X4 install is 8KB ?
