Hi People, Please bare with me as I'm not to techie.
I am using VS Pro X4 with Windows 7 home premium, Processor Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q820 @ 1.73GHz 1.73 GHz. 8 GB RAM. 64 bit op syst. NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M. Also I am mostly using GoPro 2 Mpeg4 files (which I have updated so I can finally use it in VS)
When I am edit mode and click play back to view what I have edited prior to rendering. It often plays ok until it goes from one clip to another then it starts to play jumpy or jerky video including the sound. Which makes it impossible to see how well your edit is. If I leave it for 1/2 hour or so and come back to it, it sometimes plays fine. But then add more clips to the vid or add in a transition or effect it will then play back jerky again.
Please help I am loosing my hair over this.
VS Pro X4 Play back in edit mode not smooth.

Hi
I dont understand your comment "Also I am mostly using GoPro 2 Mpeg4 files (which I have updated so I can finally use it in VS" can you explain???
If you haven’t already done so can you view this fix from Corel
Problem with VideoStudio Pro X4 and GoPro HD (.mp4) files
Video Studio uses a process called Smart Render, this creates additional clips/files that VS finds easier to work with. This makes project playback smoother and improves editing.
However the files do take some time to create.
View Settings-Smart proxy-Proxy Queue Manager
You say "If I leave it for 1/2 hour or so and come back to it, it sometimes plays"

...Ummm... I think Trevor made a typo -- that should be "SmartProxy" and not SmartRender...Video Studio uses a process called Smart Render, this creates additional clips/files that VS finds easier to work with.

Re: VS Pro X4 Play back in edit mode not smooth.
I have already done the gopro update so I can now use my gopro 2 yay!
Basically my issue is when I clip "Play Project" to check my edit the play back is far from smooth. Including the sound this is mega frustrating while trying to edit.
I dont know much about the smart proxy or how to manage it. Any tips on what I can try?

Hi
Smart Proxy (got it correct that time) is a process used by Video Studio for HD video.
It creates virtual clips of the original video files, this improves timeline playback and thus helps with editing.
The Proxy files are created automatically after adding a clip to the timeline, Providing the frame size is above a defined size. (Settings - Smart Proxy Manager - Settings)
It does take some time to create these proxy files and should you close VS then the create process will be terminated.
A small double icon will be seen on the thumbnail indicating that a proxy file has been created, in addition you can view these files via Settings - Smart Proxy File Manager, the files having a similar name to the originals, having a UPX extension.
If you think the Proxy files have not been automatically created you can activate this by Right clicking the clip--select create Proxy Files
Finally view the Smart Proxy Queue Manager to see any files being created

Re: VS Pro X4 Play back in edit mode not smooth.
Yeah ok I had a bit of a look at this and they are all automatically creating smart proxi when I add a clip. if over 720. your right they do take a while.
one thing I did notice (which is prob the major factor in my case) is that if I add a clip it starts creating a smart proxi file. But if I then scrap the clip it still creates the file. I do this quite a bit so I think they may have been
building up if you know what I mean. So it would be creating SP files for clips Im not using and the clips that make the cut are on the back of the list.
Another thing I found is that you can select the file and create a smart proxi for it before you drag it into your timeline. I will do this for all my files before bed tonight and see how well it works next time i edit.
Question when you say it terminates if you close VS is this just for those being created or also for those that are created?

So far it is looking good now that all of my vids are smart proxy filed before I even use them and I haven't had any issue with play back as yet.

Hi
Nice to hear you are able to edit.
I think the main issue is the time it takes the proxy files to be created.
By "process terminated" I am referring to the proxy files sat in the queue manager, the ones that have not been created.
All existing proxy files should be ok.
Yes you are correct you can create proxy files from the clips in the library.
