Hi Old Fart

Well if you care to read some of my responses I have been asking you for details of the original frame as read by Video Studio this is so I can best replicate your video and test WMV sizes.
Now I have mentioned WMV and Neptune Best a few times expecting a response from you that it is or is not suitable, then we can build on that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so you may be pleased with the results, after all only you can see the original content.
I rendered a 1 minute 30 second video to a few wmv's with the following results.

1 / Standard template from video studio WMV HD 720 25p.wmv 1280 x 720 file size of 22.3Mb (16 x 9)
2 / Ulead_Neptune_BestQuality.wmv 640 x 480 file size of 8.4 Mb (4 x 3)

3 / To give a comparison I used the Corel Screen Capture Profile 1920x1080, it uses 15fps and produces a larger file size at 30Mb

4 / then Corel Screen Capture Profile 1600x900.wmv again at 15fps file size at 23Mb

Question

Have you run your own tests using WMV, if so what have you done and what are the results.?
------------------------------------
Windows Media Encoder,
this may be already incorporated in Windows 7, I am running Windows XP, the encoder does increase the profiles available. Your system may have sufficient profiles for what you require, Have you looked at the WMV profile list?

The tests I ran used the standard profiles which you should also have installed.

lata, I inserted my comments into your post. See the red text.

We just seem to be going round in circles, and you are not answering my questions.
lata, I must apologize for that, and not only to you. I've gotten overwhelmed with all the testing I've done, the many files I've created, and trying to keep track of the various options in each of them I experimented with. On top of that, my health situation fluctuates, and I sometimes get side-tracked from answering each nice reply I've recieved from all you folks! I'm sorry.
If I create a test render at one minute and provide you with the file size in MB then you can approximate how large your video files will be, given that they are longer than one minute.
That is the only reason for me to use a one minute video file.

It does not matter how long they are.

I asked you to provide details of the captured files using fraps, this was to allow me to advise you on the options you had in creating a WMV, I am still waiting to know the pixel dimensions of your video files.
lata, I've attached an image of the Properties shown on the original avi clip from FRAPS.
I downloaded Fraps to have some understanding of what you are using, Interestingly the files created by fraps are NOT uncompressed AVI's at 65GB, they use a Fraps compression, i haven't worked out the actual size, don’t suppose it matters.

I also gave you instructions on using the Neptune Best profile, and hoping for feedback on quality and size. If it was suitable then we can explore the 16:9 option, but i feel as though i will be wasting my time not knowing the original aspect ratio.
lata, I tried Neptune and everything else. Neptune produced pretty good results, but so far the best I've achieved has come via mpg-4. At 1280x720 (16:0) its quality is better than the others.
Fraps does not use a fixed aspect ratio so your screen captures could be any shape.
Yes. My screen ratio during capturing is 1920x1080, 32-bit color.

I asked in an earlier reply, did you read it?

4 / Can you right click an original clip in the timeline, select properties and tell us the details.

Copy the window to an image and attach to your post, as you did in your first post. Done. I attached it to this post.

Actually, folks... I believe I'm done with this topic. Each of you has done exceedingly well in helping me. What I've learned from this is that I cannot get the quality and size I want in movies that are over 1 to 1-1/2 mintues in playtime (length) without exceeding the 25MB filesize I am limited to (by choice), in order to e-mail them as attachments. In other words, a 5-minute long movie would be impossible.

So, I'm going to thank each one of you again, and let you know that it's time to move away from this topic. I think there's not much more to be gained by pursuing it any further.

Before my trial period runs out, I may start other, more simple-to-solve-topics, on other issues I've noticed; such a graphics "tearing" occassionally within the final video output. I'm not sure when I might post that topic, if ever.

So, let's end this topic now!
Please accept my thanks for ALL THE TIME YOU SPENT HELPING ME! --- I learned a lot from each of you!!!
