transparency help with saving
I have two layers both with and image and the background the grey checkerboard because it is transparent. I want to save it like that. I do not want the transparent area to turn white when I save because my one layer is white. I have tried and tried many different formats and I can't get it to save just the red and white without making the transparent sections white. Can someone please help? Oh and I took a print screen shot but this forum says I can't upload because it is too many pixels so I can't even do that.

Re: transparency help with saving
PNG can save transparency.
When you select "Save As" to save out the image, select "PNG" from the list and then click on the "Options" button found in the lower right-hand corner of the save dialog.
You'll be presented with a number of options, select the transparency tab and have it work off the current transparency this is important because I believe the default is to save with no transparency.

Re: transparency help with saving
Katelee, you describe an image that might appear in the workspace as something like this:katelee wrote:I have two layers both with and image and the background the grey checkerboard because it is transparent. I want to save it like that. I do not want the transparent area to turn white when I save because my one layer is white.

But the PSP layer palette shows the two layers like this:

To save these two layers with their separate properties intact, you should save the file as a PSPIMAGE file. That's the native PaintShop file and is the only way you can save all the changes you have made and the separate layers, including the transparency in the one layer. Saving in virtually all the other file formats will result in merging of your two layers as you have found.
You can save the transparency layer and retain the transparency if you save that layer only as a PNG. But if you use the two layers, you'll wind up with a composite.
Always save your work files (for potential future use) as PSPIMAGE files.
(You can save a multi-layer image file in the Photoshop format (PSD) -- retain separate layer properties -- but PaintShop will insist the file be saved as an 8-bit file.)
