Tadjio killed the Corel Guide

Post by Tadjio »

(With apologies to Woolley & the Camera Club and The Buggles:)

Today I opened PSP X5 SP1 for the third time in a row and spotted a tiny checkbox.
I was so excited that I ticked it, closed the Corel Guide and then closed and reopened PSP more than three times...

The Corel Guide is dead

Bob (OldRadioGuy) mentioned yesterday or the day before that his check box appeared on the Guide and it wasn't there before. So I checked on my Guide and I didn't have a check box. However, today the check box mysteriously appeared - oh happy day!!!

I can't quite figure out why it wasn't there and now it is unless it was set to show up after the program launched X number of times.

So how big is X? At least 99? :?:
I can only think that the actual Corel Guide splash screen is configured and downloaded from the server so that the checkbox is part of the 'content'! :!:

According to Jen, once the fix is available you will have to see the Corel Guide 3 more times before the fixed version pops up (so open PSP 9 times) but that's only when it becomes available to everyone. I'm not sure how all of that works because since the first announcement I've seen it 15 times. Suggesting that it's not available to me yet. But at least we know it's coming. Just wish we knew more details on it.

When I started PSP a couple of days ago I remembered this thread. On that occasion the Corel Guide didn't open (for once). I opened it manually and there was no check box. I just opened the program again and the Guide loaded, along with the check box, which I duly selected. Why the check box only appeared when it opened uninvited I don't know.

BTW, there's some more stuff in the resources (masks comes to mind for one example)- I don't use any of them but some people may find them useful.
TOP TIP: Paint your lawn blue. If someone uses Google Earth to check out your home, they'll think you own a swimming pool.

I tried Sysinternals tool - Procmon.exe (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... s/bb896645) and filtered changes to Corel Paint Shop Pro.exe process and watched only Registry changes when I checked [x] checkbox on Corel Guide and closed it. Seems to me - one key is responsible for open up of Corel Guide at start of Paint Shop Pro X5 - (on first image - value of 'Schedule'). But I am not sure!

There are some more counters of launch... (on second image)
