VideoStudio Pro X3 no activation after purchase

Post by XPtoWin7Upgrade »

I work for a public company with over 3800 computers. We have done business with Corel in the past and hope we can continue to do so. Posting this issue here as I hope somebody has ideas on how to resolve my problem.
We have over 1000 Windows XP machines we are quickly replacing with Windows 7 64 bit PCs. Some of the machines have software which we bought in the past and need to be reinstalled.

I have Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 on 9 of them so I uninstalled from the XP machines and installed on the Windows 7 PCs. (9/13/12) I have contacted Corel about activating these 9 licenses but was flat out told we do not support X3 any more.
I was not needing technical support and was only trying to activate a product which we purchased over the phone.

I found it a bit disconcerting that I will not be able to activate the product before the 30 days are up. My documentation and licenses are in order and they have verified the purchase was done 2 years ago. So if a hard drive were to crash or an OS upgrade was needed there are many out there that will get the cold shoulder from Corel.

I know there are ways to activate the product via non-Corel means but this is not the "right" thing to do for a legitimate product purchased almost exactly 2 years ago. Is there any way to activate my 9 licenses with the Corel team? I need to have my marketing interns busy with corporate communications.

I know we need additional Corel products on some of the other 3800 PCs but this lack of help activating a purchased product makes me think twice. :?

This is a "User to User" web forum - with a couple of exceptions none of us work for Corel - so do be aware you are not talking to Corel here.

I would suggest you need to contact Corel Support to resolve your problems.

I understand, thanks for your reply. I contacted Corel and the tech just kept telling me this is not a supported product. If Corel were to somehow monitor this web board I thought it may be of some help. This also serves as a warning to anyone out there happily using their Corel product that if they have a hardware malfunction or upgrade their Operating system they will lose their ability to use the application if 2 years old or becomes "unsupported".

Hi

I am not sure how purchasing several versions of X3 works when it comes to installation and activation.
I assume you are given the rights to install on several machines which you seem to have done.
Not sure if you have several serial numbers or just the one.
Activation for me consisted of entering my e-mail address used to set up my Corel Account, the system then checked my account for details of Video Studio.
I do not see why this process should be different for multiple purchases.
--------------------------------
The burner module was a disaster and Corel in recognition of their mistake provided DVD Movie Factory 7SE as a replacement authoring/burning module. This became available for download after installing the first service pack.

Although Corel no longer support X3 they do in fact still provide the patches and updates for the program.
Clicking the Help and Product Information, top right of X3 workstation opens the Corel Guide.
From there you should get the options to update the program.
Otherwise download the patches from here.........

http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1000016

There was also a direct link to download DVD MF7SE, not sure where to find that at the moment
The file was called DMF7SEforVSX3.exe

So basically the program should work with out activation, just that you do not get customer support.

Hello XPtoWin7Upgrade, sorry to hear about your concern!

Does the 9 VS X3 that you purchased are under the Corel Volume Licensing program or you bought 9 copies of VS X3?

If you they're from Volume Licensing Program, then the activation is different from the single-user license that you can purchase from the corel web site.

In any case , let me help you with your concern and can you send additional information regarding your concern to me via email using the email address that I gave you via private message?

Thanks!

Working with Abiel with getting this resolved. Thank you all for the comments and assisting me with getting "this product is no longer supported" activation issue while trying to activate over the phone. :D
