** Separate pallete / tool settings for EACH TOOL. It is SOOO annoying when I am toggling back and forth between say text and paint brush, that I constantly have to bring up the Color / Materials pallet to reset the colors each time. It should be: the Text has a color/pallete settings that are remembered when you select the text tool, and separately color/pallete settings for paint brush, draw object, eraser, fill, etc - each has their own pallete settings. So when you change the color of text, it does NOT change the color of the paint brush you are also using.

Photoshop plug-in compatibility

Post by Brucewh »

One of the reasons I bought PaintShop Pro to begin with was that it was compatible with Photoshop plug-ins. I am a long-time user of Imagenomic's Noiseware Professional plug-in. In PaintShop Pro X5 it reports that Noiseware caused an access violation whenever I try to use the plug-in. I contacted Imagenomic support about this and was informed that PaintShop Pro has not upgraded to handle the current Photoshop API calls, which is the cause of the access violation. So now only very old (relatively speaking) plug-ins will still work.

So I would like to see the next version of PaintShop Pro add support for the current Photoshop API calls, so that newer plug-ins like Noiseware Professional v4 and v5 can be used. The noise removal capabilities in all versions of PaintShop Pro are weak compared to Noiseware's capabilities. If I'm going to lose the use of it in PaintShop Pro, I'm going to abandon the product and buy Photoshop instead, even though it is far more expensive.

Go to Elements - will do all of what you need and has the plugin capabilities

Please, for the next version...

When hovering the mouse over the Undo & Redo buttons, can you show the actual action name (Sharpen, resize etc), instead of the Shortcut info (Alt + Backspace etc).

I need to know at a glance what I am undoing without the need to keep the history palette open or remember every code for an action.

At least give me the option to toggle between what's shown in Preferences.

An excellent suggestion Howard.
I toggle the F3 key, but your suggestion would be a lot quicker.
I hope you are keeping warm & well :-)

A native 64 bit version, please ... to "second" a similar request from someone else.

I understand the possible difficulties in implementing this with what I am sure is a lot of legacy code but really hope this is in the works. 64 bit won't mean much in terms of speed of execution but with our image files getting so big it will mean much faster file handling and better utilization of the large amounts of RAM most of us have. It's time for this but ... there is a fly in the ointment: our 32 bit plugins won't work so maybe it's time those plugin writers came up to speed as well. In the bad old days when I had to use Photoshop for a couple of years I was constantly flipping back and forth between 64 and 32 bit versions because of the plugin situation. Still, the 64 bit was very nice for large files when I could use it.

Apart from that I am very satisfied with the current features and how they work. I have been with Paintshop since shareware days. A few years ago I did turn traitor by switching to Adobe Photoshop because I needed support for 48 bit images. Now that Photoshop provides the same thing I have been back for over a year. Don't miss Photoshop in the least. It was an unpleasant relationship at best, while it lasted.

Best wishes,
K.

This one would be extremely valuable for many and should not be difficult either.

When using tubes, images in a tube cannot be individually selected and in many cases there are many images in a tube even though users may often need only one or a few. Since they can already be ordered (incremental), why not have either a drop down list of them or have the ability to click on the icon or an arrow and have the choice rotate through the list until the one you want comes up.

The way it is you have to paste out a whole group of images until you find what you want and then save that as a separate image before you can use it.

Another option: make a toggle possible where it takes two clicks to insert and use, right click to show and then left click to paste.

Thanks for the consideration.

The best thing about PSP is that it can be customized to suit your workflow, something that is severely lacking in Photoshop I am told.

For quicker access to most used tools make a new menu, add it to the Tools toolbar and put all your favourites in there.

This is how:
Right-click anywhere in the Workspace and select Customize.
Under Commands click on New Menu. The words New Menu will appear on the right Click it and drag it to the Tools toolbar.
Now give it a name:
Right-click on 'New Menu' and select Button Appearance, give it a meaningful name like 'Most used' or something.
Now the fun starts :-)
Still in Customize, look under Commands and the various headers for the tools you use a lot and drag those to the new custom menu.
Everything will be in one place.

I have 7 custom menus filled with the most used tools and scripts, it works a treat.

:-)

I wish for:

1) MERGE VISIBLE function for VECTOR layers.

It is so easy to accidentally create vector text & lines in a new layer, and then you have many unnecessary vector layers to try to maintain, but merging makes them into a raster layer. Currently we have to Select everything, Copy & paste as vector & delete the original layer. Time consuming and error prone!
