X5 ULTIMATE FREEZES WHEN BROWSING

Post by rpareja »

I have Paint Shop Pro X5 installed with SP1 on a Windows 8 Enterpise machine. This is not a beta or developer preview of windows 8, it is the final product downloaded from Microsoft Volume Licensing (they do not post betas there).

The installation of X5 was smooth, and the program itself seems to load fine.
The first time it ran, it detected an update needed (SP1) which I agreed and applied it.

Next time I ran the program, whenever I click on FILE/OPEN, it does not bring me the windows to browse thru my directories looking for a picture. It freezes completely at that moment until I kill the application with the task manager (as soon as I select OPEN, the program goes into NOT RESPONDING).
If I right-click a picture on my disk and select OPEN WITH COREL PAINTSHOP PRO X5, the program works fine and I can work with that picture.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried right-clicking on the PSP X5 icon then use RUN AS ADMIN?

Yep.
I installed the program as ADMIN, the SP1 as ADMIN, and run the program as ADMIN.
Same result.

Rpajera:

I think what you are describing is a bug that some other people have experienced - there are similar descriptions in other posts.

Even after using PSPX5 numerous times, when I'm in edit and select the navigator or Organizer the program hangs up (Task Manager - not responding), but after a minute or two resumes normal functionality. I have the impression that when first installed the hangup lasts much longer.

LeviFiction has an alternative recommendation here . . . http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 49#p255249

I had the same problem, no matter what method I used to try to load a file, X5 would immediately freeze.

I ran Start - Programs- Corel PSP X5 - Restore Database
and that solved the problem for me. All is well now.

I am getting a lot of freezes too. Mainly while trying to edit a picture, if I copy an image and try to paste it as a new layer the program freezes and wont respond. Even if I leave it alone for 10 minutes its still frozen, I have to terminate the programme with task manager.

OK - Add me to the list. Although, X5 had been running fine on Win 8 for me upto about 4 or 5 days ago, but since then it keeps hanging all the time. I reported it to support who gave me access to a hotfix patch which updated it to version 15.1.0.11, but made no difference, even after a total reinstall.

I decided to reinstall X4 and use that until Corel gets X5 fixed - but X4 now has the same problem! All I can think is that a Windows update has changed something that X4 and X5 were using and made them unstable.

I originally posted my experience here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 03#p258097

Support even had the cheek to point me at this Support Plans page - there's no way I'm paying anything for support when they've clearly sold me a broken product. :x

I realize this is an old post, but I'm having the same problem with X6 and I had it with X4. I did not use X5 at all. Every time I try to import a photo into the file I'm working with, I click the folder icon and open the file browser and start to drill down to the file I want, it hangs, as "Not Responding" and the only thing you can do is choose to stop the program, if you choose to wait, you'll be waiting a long time. I restart the program and recover my file and the same thing again over and over. This is getting very frustrating. Has anyone an answer to this problem???

Usually that means you might have some 'special' files in that folder, maybe it's a invalid or corrupted file or just contains some unsupported format in file.
If you really desire to solve it, It's better to separate them into several different folders, then try to see which folders will cause the "no response" error.
When you locate the root cause, try to send file to Corel Support team, usually it can be deal nicely.
