Hi,
It's been a few days now that when I try to save a picture (either with "save", "Save as", or "save copy"), I get the following message popping up:
"because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you've selected), the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue?"
I have hit ok to that and the software would save the picture, but when I checked the size of each picture I noticed a dramatic drop in size (from 6.5MB to roughly 1.3MB). Just for the record, the editing I did to these pictures was minimal, just a little rotation and a removal of maybe 2mm from each size.
First of all, is it normal to get this message?
And then, is such a drop in size normal?
Oh I forgot, it's pictures in JPEG taken from the camera and saved as JPEG.

If you have used layers or anything special of the sort that's just PSP warning you that you'll lose those. JPG is a flat single image format. So extra layers are merged down into a single layer to work with the JPG format. If you saved to PSPImage format you won't get that message because PSPImage format can preserve everything in the image.
Now, the JPG engine in PSP is probably set to a higher compression than your original JPG.
When you click "Save As" and the dialog pops up to ask you for the new filename you'll see and "Options" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the dialog. Click this to bring up the JPG settings. Decrease the compression to get a higher file-size and preserve more of the Image's orignal data. Remember JPG is a lossy format which means you technically lose information each time you save and it reexamines and compresses the image so you probably won't end up with the same size you started with anyway, and it also depends on the engine used by the program itself. There are many JPG compression engines out there each giving a slightly different result simply because of how JPG compression works.

The long and detailed answer to your question is what Levi mention and the short answer. YES that's just normal specially when saving jpegs.alphabravo wrote:Hi,

Re: Paint Shop Pro x4 Save
Thanks for the replies.
The resizing is much clearer now. What still confuses me is the message I get. I didn't work on any layers, or at least I don't think that what I did is working on layers (I'm sorry for my ignorance...). All I did was either cropping, or tilting and then cropping a JPEG picture and saved it as a JPEG.
What I also noticed is that I don't get that message if I just open and save a picture without editing it.
