Not possible to upgrade to X5

Post by MatsW »

The upgrade button soon disappears when I visit the X5 Ultimate page. So I cannot press it. It's the same in IE9 for Win7 and Chrome21 for Win7. Could somebody inform Corel about this problem?

What are the differences between the Ultimate and the standard versions?

The only difference is what is included along with PSP. There is nothing different about PSP itself. These are included with Ultimate.

REALLUSION® FaceFilter Studio 2.0 portrait enhancement tools
NIK® Color Efex Pro™ 3.0 filters
Creative collection of royalty-free images, brushes and textures

When I click on the "Upgrade" button it takes me to what looks like the exact same page except it's priced at $79.99 instead of $99.99. So double check that.

Like I said. I cannot press the button in Win7 because it disappears in one second, before I can hit it.

(Why wouldn't one want to have those filters, which are included in the Ultimate version?)

I know what you said, just can't replicate what you're seeing. My IE, Chrome, Firefox, even Opera and Safari on my Win7 laptop all show it correctly.

People may not want those filters because they have no need for more filters. The NIK Color Efex Pro filters are very nice, I haven't played with the FaceFilter though some like it others are complaining that it's quite old and hasn't been updated. That filter is currently on sale for $39 from Reallusion. You can download a trial there if you're unsure. Also NIK Color Efex are a special version of the older 3.0 version but that's not really an issue as NIK does not suggest you try their latest version of NIK with anything other than Photoshop(CS3-6) or Photoshop Elements (8-10). Also if you just don't want to spend the extra $20. It's not that bad of a deal if you can afford it, and if you use PSP enough to warrant using these very impressive filters....and that face program.

FWIW, I can confirm that the Upgrade button remains visible and active on both Chrome and IE on my computer...

The link that you posted above will go to the product page of PSP X5 and not the Upgrade tab that's why you only see the BUY NOW. You should see 3 tab like section the PaintShop Pro X5 Ultimate -- Upgrade -- Resources
pspx5-upgrade.jpg
the direct link to the upgrade is http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... id=8100008

No, I tried your link. The Upgrade and the Buy now buttons are still not visible, and now I am trying my WinXP computer with Chrome. Obviously, Corel has a problem. How difficult can it be to program buttons? The right part of your attached image doesn't show.

I used both the direct link to the upgrade page and also went there from the main page by clicking on the link asking if I was entitled to an upgrade below the "BUY NOW" button. In both cases I could see and click on the "UPGRADE NOW" button. I'm also using Google Chrome (v.21) and running Win 7.

And again I can only reconfirm that all buttons are showing, including in the links given by Abiel above. Moreover, they lead me successfully to the Upgrade page. And I too am using Chrome 21.0.1180.89 m

Have you changed any settings in your browser? Like making the default fonts larger than normal? Since it's happening to you on multiple broswers and computers I'm assuming, probably incorrectly, that it's specific to how you have your computers or browsers setup.

I can't figure out what it is. It doesn't work with IE and Chrome on Win7, and it doesn't work with Chrome in WinXP.

I also tried IE on WinXP, and then it worked for a few seconds. Then it disappeared. It is the same problem with Safari.

The fault is with Corel web site, and not with my settings. I use no strange settings.

Corel is losing money by the minute. Somebody should inform them.

What you have to understand is that it is hard to blame the site when it works for 99% of the people who go there. Now it's not impossible that it's something on their site. They do use a lot of Javascript to write out the HTML and position items.

At which point it comes down to the browsers and their rendering engines. Each browser has its own eccentricities that are sometimes hard to account for when designing a website that tries to take advantage of the main features and capabilities of all web browser standards.

Can you post a screen-shot for us? Otherwise call Corel and see if you can get help.

Obviously I can't see all of the javascript functions but the only function that hides the "button" is a small bit of code that replaces the "Upgrade Now" button with the "Buy Now" button and then calls the "SubmitToCart" function. Technically it's not even a real button it's just testing for you clicking in a certain area of the screen. But I'm guessing you've already tried just clicking there even though the button is gone. So there is nothing in the produced HTML that suggests why the button might be disappearing on you.

The button vanishes immediately on two different computers, one running WinXP and one running Win7. On the latter I have tried Chrome and IE. This computer is recently bought and has the latest updates. On the former computer I have tried Chrome, IE, and Safari. The button vanishes in all cases. The likelihood is scarce that I have dabbled with the settings in such a way as to destroy all the browser's functionality. I haven't encountered this problem anywhere else. The attachment shows how my Chrome browser looks. There is no button to the right.

Could it perhaps have to do with him being in Sweden? It wouldn't make sense for him to see the price in dollars and maybe Corel doesn't have the code written correctly for showing Swedish currency.

EDITED TO FIX MY REALLY STUPID ASSUMPTION:

The Apology and Explanation:

If they are all your computers the likely hood is actually greater that you would have changed something in all browsers to match what you need or expect from the browser. That's why I couldn't rule it out.

But you're right I should have listened and started looking for another reason. I'm sorry.

Fortunately LindaSue is absolutely correct it is with the different location setting on the site. Which explains everything. That was the important detail I was missing, which would have been easy to find if I had just taken the time to look at it properly. If we had known that we would have agreed with you. I think most of us were trying it with a location that displayed properly.

There seems to be a difference in how the code interprets where you're coming from or something along those lines. I can't explain it. I tried and was wrong. So I can't explain it. But by going through the products tab drop-down list you can get the right location. But following the link on the front page ruins the coding somehow.

Fortunately, only a link or two is broken. So I hope you've contacted them, I posted a note on the CorelYourWay website. The moderator and owner there, Jen, is pretty awesome and reports these things as we post them.

The Workaround:

If you select PSP from the products tab I am getting the appropriate link.

Try using this link and seeing if that works any better. It seems to work for me when I change the location to Sweden.
