Videostudio Pro x2 and flash player

Post by Colleen »

I have had problems with VS not working correctly when I've updated Adobe Flash Player before. I since tried to avoid any updates. My son unknowingly updated it and of course VS had it's issues. I ended up uninstalling both the flash player and VS and reinstalling VS. My VS didn't automatically install any flash player and I couldn't get it to manually install from the CD.I then installed an old version 9 of flash player from Adobe. What versions of flash player don't create problems for VS? Can I use a newer version than 9?

Hi Colleen

I did not realise there were any problems with updating Flash Player.
Flash Player is a plug-in, as far as I know, and as such does not open a module unlike Windows Media Player or QuickTime Player.
In fact i don’t know where to look for the version i have installed, I do know there was a recent update in the past week, so i guess i am running the latest version, however using Windows XP.
Just found reference to Flash as Version 11 via the Add and Remove Programs, ( W7 - Program Features)
---------------------------
Problems are known regarding QuickTime Player updates regarding random crashes.

If it is this you are referring to, or indeed are having random crashes, re-install QT Version 7.5.5

may affect I=Tunes?

I could swear about a year or so ago when I was having issues, one of the moderators asked me if I had updated the flash player because it could be the problem. Are you saying there are no known problems with VS Pro x2 specifically if I update to the current version of flash player?

Hi Colleen

I am saying that I do not know of a problem in using the latest version of Flash Player.

I did a search and found this post relating to linking SWF clips in the library.
During the search I did not find any reference to Flash Player versions with regards to problems.

Did you ever resolve this issue.???
If the linking is the issue then I doubt updating Flash will help?

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... er#p205067

You say you re-installed the program, did you install the "service patch" that covers Windows 7 compatibility?

Colleen why do you need to update Flash?

Yes previously I reinstalled VS and the flash player on it's CD and it worked again. It only stopped working correctly after my son updated the flash player recently. Since then I again reinstalled VS, but I couldn't get the CD to install the flash player so I got an old version 9 online. Yes I also did the two patches for VS Pro x2. In the post that you have a link to Ron asks if I updated the flash player before my issues started and also he says sometimes you need to reinstall the flash player from the CD. I thought that meant the version 9 on the CD worked better than the updated versions. I now am wanting to update flash just because using version 9 I have found instances where I can't view things on websites because my plugin aren't up to date.

Well, this time all the video filters were missing. Just an empty library when I clicked video filters. They all are back after the reinstall. I just don't want to mess it up with updating the flash player, but I need the plugins for other things.

Hi Colleen

FX filters missing have been reported before, I doubt that they are associated with Flash.
Resetting the program to its initial installed state should cure that.
From C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio
Re name "12.0" to "12.0 old"
Restarting X2 will create a new "12" this will also reset the library.

At least installing X2 can be done from the files in C:\Program Files\Corel\VS-Installation Files
Its the only program that retains the installation files, usually saved to a temp folder then deleted after install

Flash Player 9 file can be found there
C:\Program Files\Corel\VS-Installation Files\Utilities\Flash Player

I dont think you have any choice if you want the internet video to work correctly.
Update Flash
Its not a big deal to re-install.

Before you do, check out Video Studio to make sure everything is working, are you still having problems with library links? the ones discussed with Ron, you were unable to re-link etc.?

and if Flash messes up the program then apologies in advance.............

You have to remember you are using a version that was not designed for Windows & even though they provided the service packs, and that may be the root of the problems? Just thinking out loud......

As far as I know, there should be no problem installing the latest version of flash with any version VideoStudio.
