X5 Corel Guide problem - can't use it

Post by nhlisa »

Hi. I purchased & installed X5 Ultimate the other day. I'm doing some testing now to write up my thoughts on it.

I have run into one problem so far. The Corel Guide. The first time it came up, it said "you must sign in to use the corel guide" and had a "register now" button. Now I am already registered at the Corel site with previous versions of PSP. But since there was no "sign in" button, I clicked to register now. On the next screen it asks for my email address. I put it in and click the register button. The box goes white and my cursor goes round & round for a while, like it's doing something. So I waited a little. Nothing happened. I clicked on the x in the upper right hand of the box and cancelled it. I did get an email shortly afterwards thanking me for registering. But I was not able to do anything in the Corel Guide as it still said I needed to register. So today I tried it again and it does the same thing. I got another email thanking me for registering but I still can't do anything with the guide. I thought maybe it was because I had my Windows screen view set to 125%, thought maybe the sign in button was hiding. So I changed it to normal and same thing. I then thought maybe Malewarebytes was blocking it, so I disabled it. Nope, same thing...click register and it goes to a white screen and I wait and wait and nothing happens. I have to hit the X to cancel it.

Anyone know what the heck is causing this problem?
Is there supposed to be a sign in button?

I can click on any of the "tabs"..Home, Learn More, Do More or Messages and I get the sam thing on the screen. Up top it says What's New.... In the middle is has the message saying you have to sign in to use the guide and then the register now button. At the bottom is just a black band.

Is there anything I can do other than re-install? There doesn't appear to be any other problems so far and I don't want to cause more problems by re-installing things.

I'm replying to my original message because I realized that my computer information was wrong, it was for my old computer. I have updated it with my new computers information. The memory will be updated to 16GB as soon as it gets here. So I'll have to remember to edit it again after.

Hi, replying again to let you know I solved the problem.
First I did email support. The first response had me try to register again but this time had me make sure I was logged into the Corel site first. Well of course that didn't work. The second suggestion was to reset the program to defaults. Nope that didn't work. At that point I unintsalled the program, figuring I'd just re-install it. Well, something happend and when I went to run the installer again, it would NOT install. Kept saying that no changes were made, run setup again. Tried everything I could think of with no luck. Finally started my computer all over from scratch again. Now everything works as it should.

But I am getting annoyed that the darn guide keeps coming up. I think it's every third time you open the program. Well, normally that wouldn't bother me much. But I'm installing plugins and I install one at time and then test. So I've been opening & closing the program a lot. Hope they come out with an update that lets you stop that darn thing from coming up all together. It's nice that it's there, but it shouldn't be in my face. It should wait for me to decide when I want to use it or if I want to use it.

Hi and thanks for that link.
I did actually see that little check box finally and have checked it. Just haven't had a chance to open the program more than once since then. I hope it works.
