I've been reading this board and I've found I'm having the same problem some others are having. I installed the problem back in Nov 2012 when I got it. I dropped PS, it was too confusing. So I went to start up PSPx5 and it won't stay open. I've reinstalled it like someone suggested but nothing. The screen populates but the pointer is an hourglass, then the message - windows needs to shut down the problem. I bought the program but I can't get it to run. PSPx4 works fine. Do I need to remove PSPx4 to run PSPx5? I'm lost and I've got holiday cards to make.

Thanks!

I'm having a similar issue that I can't seem to resolve. I used the clean up tool to uninstall PSPx5, then restarted my computer and reinstalled the program. That was as far as I could get. It installed but immediately upon opening, it crashes. There is no time to even so much as click on anything it happens so fast. Should I proceed with SP1 anyway and give that a try? I can still use PSPx4 but I am anxious to try the new version. This is my 3rd attempt at uninstalling and reinstalling but so far no luck. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'm on Window 7 Ultimate and to date had no issues with installing any program successfully - unfortunately, my track record has come to a standstill. Thanks for your help!

4. The vector text bug hasn't been fixed and it's been around since at least X3, I think. An extra space is added at the end of every line of text which makes it impossible to center align the text inside the bounding box. I can't believe that Corel hasn't fixed this considering how many people have complained about it.

Linda if you add the text to your layer it will prevent the extra space..(right click on Vector 1 inside layer box and Promote to layer) Hope it helps

That's not really a solution. One of the benefits of vector text is that you can go back and edit it later. If I have to convert it to raster then I can no longer do that.

That is why I made scripts to handle the aligning. They allow me to align the text but keep the original text vector. However, I didn't make it intelligent (I was lazy) so it's still a pain. The odd thing is that this bug doesn't happen for everyone. A very few people don't ever see that extra space at the end. According to Simone the developers claimed they would try really hard to fix it in SP2 of X5. However, as we know "try" means they haven't solved it yet and so is no guarantee.

PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes: Nik Silver Efex Pro

Post by FredL »

I've been trying to use the latest Nik Software plugins:
Color Efex 4 is not supported
Silver Efex Pro 2 is not supported

Unfortunately, because I am an enthousiast B&W photographer I absolutely want to use these plugins.
I've been using PSP since 1990 (v3.14!) and I am currently using the X4 Ultimate

It seems I have no choice but to divorce from Corel and move to Adobe Photoshop

If you are using the Organiser with the Collections tab selected in the Navigation window, then you can change the sort order of the images in the Organiser to whatever you want.

If you are using the Organiser with the Computer tab selected in the Navigation window, then the sort order option is greyed out. Not sure why, a bug, or ??

If you are using the Computer tab, then just change to the Collection tab, change the sort order, and then change back to the Computer tab.

AdrianW wrote:I contacted support about X5 becoming unresponsive in Windows 8 (see previous post), and they confirmed it was a known issue and that they were working on it.

They gave me access to a hotfix patch, but it failed to fix the issue for me. (The hotfix bumped the version number up to 15.1.0.11).
I'd love to know what's happening with this. I just bought X5 (my first upgrade since version 9) and it becomes unresponsive as soon as I touch "edit". Sadly, this became apparent after I'd already chosen to make edit my default startup screen. So... I have a new, licensed, completely unusable program.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to at least alter the default start up environment without actually running the program?

Hi Sir, sorry for making this negative impression to you. Actually both of them cannot work well with PSP is known issue and the root cause is due to Nik software part. Corel side is asking Nik software to resolve this crash issue soon and the issue might be resolved in further update.

Using the Gif Optimiser:
1. place an image on the workspace.
2. Do Save As and select GIF.
3. Choose Gif optimiser and Colors Tab.
4. When changing the number of colors up in the GIF Optimiser the size updates as well as the image but when you reduce the number of colours it does not update the size. This happens for me in X4 and X5. It does work correctly in X3 and does go up and down to show the save size as you choose a different number of colors. So for me they broke it between X3 and X4.

Corel has yet again become the most annoying software company in the photo business. They release product with stupid bugs and lots of them. Absolutely no quality control and now no way to contact them about the problems. Post something here and maybe someone will give you a hint or maybe not. I use X4 and my trial version of X5 will not read my Sony RAW files. How stupid is that? The Corel web site is just a big circle jerk unless you want to pay to tell them the product is crap. Yeh, I'm fed up and you should be too. I'm going to download elements and try that.
