Tried this and it seems to be the case for me as well. The Sort By options come back if I am on the Collections tab, but disappear if on the Computer tab. Bit of a workaround but I guess it will do for now.

Thanks.

That works for me too but I don't have to switch tabs in X4 to get the sorting menu.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Same here. I didn't realize that until you pointed it out.

I bought X5 Ultimate for the extra features but I cant even use them. Hope Corel can get this fixed soon :(
Same here: freezes, crashes, only Task Manager works to close after a freeze or crash. Really disappointing...

Are these issues a Corel 'issue' or is it rather an operating environment issue?

I wish these sorts of discussions were first in another thread rather than on this thread which is for 'confirmed' issues.

I also suspect that that is the case. I have just installed X5 and now have installed PSP8, X2, X3, X4 and X5 and all sem to be happy. Glad the Tabbed documents problem (common problem ) has been solved. The extra space after Vector Text (again a common problem) appears on my system as well. Have not so far had X4 or X5 freeze or crash .
Am wondering if the people experiencing these problems (and blaming Corel) may be having program conflicts. Would be interesting to (as you have suggested) compare what systems are experiencing these problems and also what other programs are being used that may be causing conflicts.
eg what AV and firewall are people using that are having these freezes. (could for example Norton AV be a commonality).
I have used a program called Belarc Advisor to maintain a record of the programs I have installed and also to alert me if there are any hotfixes that are required.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
THis could be very useful if a program was working correctly and then later it stops working. If you have done a snapshot before and compare with the snapshot after you can see what changes you have made that may be a cause of conflict.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

I solved my PSP X5 won't open files/freezing/won't shut down problem this morning. It worked under another profile on the computer, but not mine. I blew away my profile, created a new one, and verified PSP5 worked normally (it did). From backup, I restored one profile element at at time, checking PSP X5 after each step. Lo and behold , when I restored My Videos, the problems appeared. When I deleted the videos, I couldn't delete some because "file is in use by Corel Paintshop Pro". I moved My Videos to a different drive, works great now. I can't say this will work for anyone else, but it solved my problems. 8)

In regards to my freezing problem: I am running a fresh install of Windows 8 Enterprise RTM evaluation 64bit, no anti virus or firewall installed, just the built in Windows firewall and Microsoft security essentials. Have tried PSPx2 and PSPx4 and they both work fine with no problems but x5 seems to freeze within seconds of it opening. Have unistalled and reinstalled but its still the same.

As for stobert's fix...I don't really want to go moving my video folder around, there's thousands of GB's in there!

Visible Watermark is still 8bit.
You can still not use the DEL key in an editbox in a toolbar, it deletes the selection.

I have a similar problem. Whenever I try to merge a layer with less than 100% opacity, X5 stops working. I can use X4 to merge the two, but I have already spent my money on X5. At this point I regret the expenditure.

X5 Save Copy As command add a second .pspimage extension to the file name. Confirmed by two other people in this thread http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=47970.

take a look at the task manager... when X5 freezes it stays at 25% of CPU - never moves, I start up X4 and it stays at 0% until i use... there is an issue with the X5 version ... it just freezes like version 2 did until it was resolved..

Crashes after series of adjustments:

My X5 Ultimate is crashing every single time after I do adjustments and get to a save stage.

My typical path when this happens:

Open image - resize for web viewing.
Adjust shadow/highlights
Adjust color
Adjust levels
Add a watermark with text tool
Go to Export- JPG optimizer, and it's here where EVERY time, it stalls for a second then I get the message that the program has encountered an error and must close. It then closes without saving my pic.

Even if I save my photo midway and get to this last stage, it crashes. If I JUST go to JPG optimizer from an image it won't happen, it seems to happen after doing a small list of adjustments, every time. X4 and X3 Ultimate did not have this problem (same computer), nor do any other programs I run on it. I have cleared temp files and things from the system but to no avail.

Unfortunately I bought this at a store because it was on sale, and the store won't accept the return because obviously it's opened software. Corel won't accept it because I didn't buy it directly from them. I'm out $50.00, it seems, with worthless software. I'm somewhat tired of each version having so many bugs that we have to wait for fixes with each incarnation, but not even being able to save an image is of course unacceptable. Anyone else having this exact same issue?

This happens also to me.
For the moderator:
you can test this bug by doing the following:
1-open an image
2-duplicate the layer
3-set for instance "multiply" as operation between the two layers
4-use layers fn FLATTEN function without changing the opacity: RESULT=OK
4b-set opacity to something less than 100%
5-use layers fn FLATTEN: RESULT=CRASH
Hope the pòroblem will be solved soon, thanks

Works fine on Windows XP sp3. No crash.
